Losing Votes I Had

I know ranking goes up and down, but why would my vote count be 16 one day, then 12 the next day? Can voters take away their votes? How does this happen?

Its called a sweep, the site runs them once a week or so, sometimes more during contests and it gets rid of votes they deem suspicious. Usually its a good thing because it gets rid of one bombs.

It's not clear what votes are being swept - in addition to 1-bombs, like LC said probably multiple votes from the same "computer," whether low or high and from known "trolls". It's been a topic of long discussion off and on, but revealing the algorithm to remove votes would allow people to game the system more than they do currently, so it remains secret.
