((OUT-OF-CHARACTER: This is a roleplaying thread set in the Fourth Age of Middle Earth.

Please feel free to join in, starting with your character's description.))

SETTING
It is the Fourth Age.

Although Elrond’s twin sons remain in Rivendell, most elves and surviving heroes of the War of the Ring left Middle Earth and sailed to the Undying Lands.

All the surviving Orcs and Uruk-Hai find refuge in the depths of Moria, where they degenerate in size and stature over the centuries; Orcs now range in height from 3 to 5 feet tall, while Uruk-Hai stand 5 to 6 feet tall. Trolls and Olog-Hai join the Orcs and Uruk-hai in Moria, forming a “nation” of sorts. All dwarven efforts to reclaim Moria fail miserably.

A new dwarven nation founded by Gimli, Son of Gloin, in the underground tunnels underneath Helm’s Deep, finds its own population dwindling from the usual low dwarven birth rate and the alarmingly high death rate – mostly from the casualties brought about by the many attempts to take Moria from the Orcs and Trolls.

Of the original five Wizards, only three remain after Saruman’s death and Gandalf’s departure: Radagast the Brown and the Blue Wizards Alatar and Palando.

All Haradrim unite and declare open war against the Easterling nations. At the same time, the Haradrim also cut off diplomatic communications with Gondor, and a massive Corsair fleet brazenly conducts war training maneuvers along the nearby coasts. Dunedain Rangers report an enormous build-up of Haradrim forces supported by Mumakil heavy cavalry units along the Ithilien border.

The Easterlings blame Gondor and Rohan for failing to come to their aid against the Haradrim incursions. Easterlings finally cut off all diplomatic relations with the West after the last round of Haradrim invasions lay waste to the southernmost Easterling territories. Easterlings unite under one flag against the Haradrim.

The last heir of Aragorn died. Minas Tirith is in political chaos as the most influential families vie for power and control.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTION
* Easterling male

* Large by Easterling standards: 5'9" tall 180 lbs.

* long black hair (usually tied into a pony-tail), brown eyes, bronze complexion, husky/muscular build

* poor eyesight from retinal scarring (what happens when you get hit on the head too many times), near-sightedness and astigmatism

* wears scavenged Orc armor (search long enough, and you'll find armor that fits quite well...)

* stole a medium-sized horse (basically a quarterhorse; with bridle, saddle, saddle blanket and small saddle bags)

Scavenged Weapons:
~ Orc bow and arrows
~ black Orcish blade that somewhat resembles a katana (like the sword Samwise Gamgee scavenged in Return of the King)

I'm not sure where I am exactly... All I know is that I am somewhere along the banks of the River Anduin, where I can water my horse, wash my scavenged equipment of their Orcan stench, and draw deep, cool draughts of the fresh water for myself.

I bathe myself around noon, while the sun is high enough to warm these rather cold lands. Afterwards, I tie my long, jet-black hair back into a ponytail, and eat the simple lunch of fruits, nuts and berries that I gathered for myself from the area nearby.

I spend the rest of the day cleaning and sharpening the fine, black Orcan blade I managed to scavenge. An Orc who challenged me for it indicated that it was once wielded by the Hobbit Samwise Gamgee, and is somewhat of a relic.

I care not for its history; all I know is that it is light, well-balanced, holds a keen edge very well, and fits quite well with my style of fighting. It's slight curve and sharpened chisel tip, with its differential heat treatment and folded steel forging remdinds me of the weapons I trained with back East.

I break camp just before the sun sends its golden tendrils through orange clouds and tangerine sky.

I know that if I follow the river south, I will pass through the lands of Gondor and Ithilien, and eventually reach the ocean. The thought of seeing the ruins of Osgiliath and perhaps even the Citadel of Minas Tirith beckons to me like a starving whore from within the shadows of her street corner.

So, I head north instead. I don't know if I'll keep heading north or if I'll cross the River Anduin sometime and head west. Somehow, I know I'll eventually figure out where I'm going, and better yet, where I want to go. For now, I'll just very simply head north -- just because something tells me I'd rather NOT go south.

I walk beside my horse for awhile, setting a good walking pace. Riding, of course, would be faster -- but what is the point of speed when one sets one's destination upon a mere whim? Besides, walking with my horse gives me the feeling that my horse is more than simply a beast of burden -- more than just a steed, I can pretend that my newly-stolen horse is my travelling companion, and perhaps even my friend...

She rode up to the River Anduin. She dis mounted and went to drink herself.

Before her thirst was fully slacked she heard foot steps. SHe stood and waited for the man to approach. She looked him over not sure of his nature. He looked human but his weapons and armour look orc.

NOt that all human are good but she had never meet a decent orc or uriki.

While he was still a good six feet away she spoke."greetings" Her tone neutral and calm. Needing to learn more about this creature.

First Meeting

I stop in my tracks when I notice another person and the person's horse by the river's edge. Despite my poor eyesight, I catch a glimmer of blonde hair, and wonder if the person is a Rohirrim Horserider.

The Rohirrim have always been at war with my people, and I am very worried that this person might attack me.

I raise my hand high in greeting, and speak in my best Westron: "Hail! I mean no harm, nor do I seek combat with you. I seek only to travel in peace."

Bain nodded, "I have no wish to fight you just for the sake of fighting. I am called Bain." She knew not every one spoke elvish and she really hope this man was one who did not. Dealing with a stranger knowing her name ment beautiful could be a pain.

She continued "are you planing on continuing up this river to Lothlorien?"

OOC: why has the thread restarted?? may wrent join?

OOC: I started this thread here before I started the one in the SRP forum. The SRP forum seemed to attract more attention, so we just went with that.

newlysubbed replied to this thread as well, so I'm just going with the flow and posting in both. It might bei nteresting to see where both threads lead.

You're very welcome to join, as always, Crowe my friend! :)

A woman? Her melodic voice catches me off-guard. Well, why not? Women can ride horses -- especially those of Rohan...

"I am Hoj Saira, of the Clan Saira, Chieftain's Son,
I reply, bowing in introduction. "I am honored to know your name, Lady Bain."

I squint my eyes, cursing my poor vision as I attempt to get a better look at the woman I currently speak with.

"You do not sound like a Rider of Rohan," I comment as I approach her cautiously. "And yes, I was headed upstream, although I have no plan or predetermined destination..."

I stop a few feet away from her, and realize that the woman is quite comely -- I can sense her beauty radiating from her, burning through my clouded vision with a bright clarity.

"If you are willing, I have some rations to share, and would appreciate the company," I offer, realizing that I truly would welcome companionship -- besides that of my horse. "Will you join me and share with me some food and conversation?"

Bain laughed at his words, "I have not been called a lady in many centuries. In then is was usually in jest. But I would be delighted to share a meal with some one." Part of her wished he was not wearing orc armour. There was an odor of orc and blood clinging to it. It was not really overwelming but it was noticable to her hieghtened sences.

Then she added, " i have dry bread and fruit to contribuite to a meal. Plus the water here is clean and cool."

Although human, I feel my ears perk up at the mention of proferred sustenance. "You are most kind to offer. I have dried strips of meat that I am willing to share, perhaps to complete our meal -- that is, if you wish..."

I unsaddle my horse and take off its bridle. I let her get some water from the river, and then watch as she heads off to some bushes for something to eat. I noticed a few days ago that my steed LOVES to eat...

"Shall I make a fire?" I ask Bain as I look through my saddle bags for my provisions. "I welcome the opportunity for some company. I realized just now how much I miss the company of other people...."

A thought comes to mind, so I pause to formulate the question and then ask Bain directly.

"So, you've lived for centuries, you say? I look at her closely, and notice her elfin ears. "My apologies. I've never met an elf before... I heard that all of the elves sailed away to the Undying Lands. If I may be so bold, I would like to ask why you did not go with the other elves. Do you not miss the company of your own kin and kind?"

Bain listened, "I bothers my not weather or not you make a fire. You are nearly right in saying that all the elves left, there are a few of us left. But only a few. I though about leaving but all of my family has died here. I could not leave them. "

Then pulled her saddle bags off her mare and went to finish her drink.

I smile at the elven woman shyly, trying to hide my amazement and awe. I nodded, failing to think of something to say in reply. Instead, I get down to the business of making a camp fire and preparing some kind of meal with our combined food supplies.

Despite the cooling shade and the cooler temperatures of the local climate, I break into a mild sweat from my efforts. After getting dinner ready, I decide to take off my armor and wash up in the nearby river.

"I hope you don't mind," I say to the elven woman from the nearby river bank as I begin removing my armor. "I trust that there is no need for me to wear my scavenged armor -- such that it is -- and would like to take some time to wash up before we eat?"

Bain spoke,"washing up before a good meal always makes it better."

She went over to the river and washed up her self. "I have no intension to attack you. There is no reason for armour as we eat."

"The water here is quite clear and pleasant -- not too cold at all," I observe out loud. Suddenly feeling mischievous, I splash Bain with a bit of water. "How about a quick swim before we eat? It might help wash away the smell of the day's travel on me, and I can magine that would be a boon for one whose senses are as keen as an elf's..."

With that, I proceed to take off all my armor until I am down to my loin-cloth. Afterwards, I wade a bit deeper into the river and dive in, immersing my entire body fully into the water's crisp, clean depths.

I surface a few yards away from Bain, still within easy earshot.

"Come join me, my new friend!" I call out to Bain, laughing and waving to the elfin woman. "The water feels great, and I'm beginning to feel cleaner already!"
