I read this story long ago. I was hoping ASSTR had it but I could not find it.
The story takes place in the future where they have technology that can change your sex. Male convicts are put into a game show, survivor style, where they run around shooting each other. They are wearing dark blue jumpsuits. Their guns shoot pink rays. When you are hit by a ray, you lose some of your physical masculinity traits (e.g. lose muscle mass) and your suit turns a lighter shade of blue. Each subsequent hit continues this de-masculine process, until your suit is white and your body is androgynous. Then, further hits of the pink ray start adding pink shades to the suit and the recipient takes on feminie physical traits, in small steps. The main character does not make it to the end before fully becoming a woman.
