I've got a 32K word story written that has as the two main characters a Yank who's touring Europe for the summer and a Cork woman (Sinead) who he meets and falls in love with. I'm looking for someone to help me with the Sinead's dialogue. I've done a lot of research and I've tried to give her enough of an accent that she'll sound Irish but not so much of an accent that she's hard for American readers to understand. However, I'm not confident that research alone will work for something like this and I'd like someone whose familiar with how Cork residents speak to help me get her dialogue right.
The idea for the story came from some back-and-forth with a correspondent about another of my stories. He volunteered to help me with the dialogue and I set this story in Cork at his request. He picked the name of the characters. I got the first draft done, sent it to him and then didn't hear from him for a long time. Then he sent me email apologizing for the silence, saying there were work and family issues and asking for the latest version. That was eight months ago and I haven't heard from him since.
In the story, it turns out that Sinead is the yank's half-sister that he never knew he had. He struggles with being in love with his half-sister. In the end, they decide to be together and to hide the fact that they are related. If that type of thing turns you off, then you're not going to be able to help me.
