Hey all, a beautiful snowy morning here in Denver, just got home from work.
I am on the hunt for a good scotch, always like to hear what other people like. On my trip back from South Africa, I picked up a bottle of Glengoyne 17 year old. Great stuff, not to peaty. Went down smooth, the wife and I liked it alot. It is hard to find here in Denver. What are some of you drinking right now? If you could what would you be drinking instead?

As always thanks.

I find I am partial to the odd bottle of Teachers.

Teachers is a blend -

you got to go single malt

IMHO - the best there is - and I am a Scot

Is 22 years Highland Park - 18 year old is not bad either

It is from the Orkneys and is pure nectar

Glengoyne is good.

If I was you then I'd go hunting for some good Single Malts.

Glenmorangie
Lagavulin
Cragganmore
Laphroaig
Bowmore
Amongst others, personally I'm most fond of Glenmorangie,Laphoraig or Bowmore.

Glenmorangie 18 yr old. There is no better... accept no substitute.

Glenmorangie is good - but honestly if you have never tried Highland Park go and get a bottle- it is from the Isle of Orkney and is one of the most Northern producers - the stuff is great

Thanks for the replies

We weren't big fans of the Bowmore. It was OK. We have a Pub here they have about 250 different types. Some are very expensive. I got a bottle of Glenmorangie, it was 12 year old though, port wood finish. Eh. Nothing like the Glengoyne.

That was a good one! You are one funny guy.
Why can't I spell this morning?

Depending on how flush I am, my usual is Glenfiddich, but I prefer Glenmorangie. Whoever said single malt is the only way to go is right. Once you're used to them, it feels like cheating yourself to go back to a blend.

Cheers!

Single Malts:

The McCallan is my current favorite.

If you like something REALLY peaty - try Laphroig.

Oban is a good smooth easy to drink scotch

Depends on what you are looking for...

A good summer Scotch is usually a highland. If your not a fan of peaty flavor then the highland single malts are going to be for you. They are more carmel or floral flavored, less smoky.
Macallin
Cragganmore

If you like a heavier winter scotch the island Single malts are better.
Lagavulin - Islay (Like drinking a slab of bacon with Iodine poored over it. )
Talisker - Skye
Highland Park - Orkney

The turely exceptional Scotches though are the rare cask bottlings. These are bottled at cask strength, and are truely tasty Scotches.

G.

Add me to the Highland Park drinkers. If you like something lighter, you might try Dalwhinnie. If I feel like splurging, I'll go for a 21-yr-old Glenfarclas or a single-barrel Balvenie. Can you say, "smooooooth"?

I'm working my way through a bottle of Glenmorangie Madeira Wood Finish... it's divine.

I have more than pleasent memories of...

Several bottles of MacAllan 25 year old single malt.

If you ever get the chance to take a trip to Scotland, make sure to book a couple of weeks just to visit the distileries, each one sells their own specials after a wonderfully instructive tour.

I have drunk enough at the distillery tours to make the rest of the day a blur, it used to be a problem when I was the coach driver, hic!

The distilleries pay the coach drivers to put their distillery on the tour, and even with a regular charter tour there is still at least 1 day when the driver gets to enjoy his day off, most drivers organise private tours, one in the morning and a second and sometimes third in the afternoon and evening.

I used to make more money on the day I was not working than on the 6 days of the tour that I was.

Sell the tickets for the tour, provided a "traditional greasy spoon breakfast (kick back from the greasy spoon and free food)" Tour of the first distillery (kick back and a bottle of their finest), Highland picnic in good weather or hotel luncheon if raining (made by the greasy spoon as part of their kick back (if they don't eat it at luncheon, they had it for dinner at the side of a loch)).

The afternoon was more of the same.
