As far as I can remember, it is about a magician who no one will take as an apprentice. Then one day he runs into some exceptionally important magician (in a tower? after some sort of device fall apart? maybe) and he takes him. It's something weird as an apprenticeship, more like a marriage really, and the apprentice moves into the masters house. I recall it being a little BDSM-y.

It is not "The Magic of a Touch"by Fantasyboy69 or "The Warlock" or "The Coven" by Amaranthya.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think so. It may possibly have been in SciFi (or nonhuman? the only ones that are even a little likely) but I almost never run into anything other than hetero-normative stories in SciFi or Nonhuman.
