Going to London soon. Any hostels to recommend? Or avoid?

Avoid the hostels for the homeless. They can be a bit rough.

I'd also avoid staying with anybody who offers you a bed on here. They will almost certainly be odd.

I've got no personal recommendations for hostels in London, but perhaps try this article .

If you're looking for hotels, I would avoid the Bayswater/Queensway hotel ghetto. The hotels are expensive (though adverised as cheap), shitty and you're a long walk from the West End.
Better to pay for a cheap-but-in-reality-expensive and shitty hotel in Covent Garden/Piccadilly Circus or a less expensive but rather nice one in somewhere like Hendon (on the Northern Line) and it will take you about 20 mins to get to Leicester Sq and central London.
Good hotels in central London are expensive.

What they (she?) said.

Also look into London Colleges/universities who often open up student accommodation for letting in the summer which will be basic but cheap(er).

Youth Hostel Association

The Youth Hostel Association has hostels throughout England and Wales and through Hostelling International - all over the world.

This is a link to their London Hostels:

http://www.yha.org.uk/places-to-stay/london

But their London Hostels are booked up some time in advance - check that space will be available.

If you join before you book, you get a discount on bookings.

Why would you want tto stay at one? Have you not seen any of the Hostel movies?

Didn't they try and revive it a couple of years ago?

I met Noel Gordon when I was a kid. Not very exciting.

They did, because I remember my Dad moaning they'd took it off when 9/11 happened!
