London explosion

I gave up trying to use my mobile to call people, the networks were completely overloaded. I could, thank heavens, send texts.

I haven't tried in the last 5 hours.

Edited: Just tried, still can't get calls to connect out of UK.

Grr. Is anyone else trying to call from the west coast getting a circuit busy signal?

That sort of thing does happen. It might be best to wait. Right now, the emergency services may still need the phones.

Shanglan

Best wishes to all.

The terror alert has been elevated in the US, on both coasts.

What can I say?
I'm sad for the killing and hurting.
I'm angry for the ruthless violence
I'm relieved that the UK Litizens seem to be ok.

:(

I agree with Shang...wait a little bit as much as it might upset you, but you should wait... :rose:

I am safe and sound and all my London friends are too.

My thoughts are with all those affected...there are no words... :rose:

Relieved to hear all are well and accounted for and that friends and family are as well.

My heart goes out to all of you in light of this senseless tragedy. :rose:
Be strong.

Sam.

I posted this on a thread in the GB. I thought it mioght be of interrest here too:

Just got off the phone with a relative who was at Russel Square when it happened. She said there was some loud noise, and then everyrhing went silent. Then she felt something hit her in the head. Turned out to be glass splinter raining down. A small cut on the forehead, but she's ok.

I'm still shaking from worrying. I know she rides the underground every day at that time. Can't imagine what others feel now who actually lost someone. :(
Pray if you have it in you. Light a candle and spare a minute. But most important of all: Don't get sad. Get angry.

I just sent off a heap of emails to friends and people I know in London. My thoughts go out to everyone in the UK.

I heard from a friend of a friend. She lives by Russel Square and said they're not allowed to live their building. They heard the bomb go off and she's a bit stressed and shocked. Another close friend of mine said he heard from his sister and brother. They were going over to their parents.

I love London and terrorist threats were always in my thoughts, but I have to admit I'm happy I wasn't there today. Mainly because I'm happy my parents didn't need to get worried. Mom would have been really worried as I used to live not far from Liverpool St and Edgeware St.

Snappy, but not much more. Would you please elaborate?

Why not? Angry does not equal aggressive. Is that what you think I meant? Well, I don't. It can mean determined to not let things like this defeat you.

No. Determination to not let things like these defeat you can mean determination to not let things like these defeat you. Anger accomplishes nothing except blinding you.

If you let anger rule you, you become what you hate. Be sad, but be strong. Don't let the terrorists who hate and rage against you win by making you mad, make them lose by being strong and moving on. Live. Thats what they dispise, the way you live the way things move on. They want to make you senseless, to bring you to their level and make you afraid. You can't let them or you become them.

So you say, but I don't agree. Anger gives you energy. If you channel it right, it can be a constructive force.

Whatever, poor choice of words maybe. Mea culpa.

I would never advocate agression or mob mentality.

There was a cartoon by the artist Low, showing two cockneys during the height of a bombing raid during the Blitz, the sky alight with fire, walking casually home from the pub past a smoking shell of a just-bombed house. One says to other, "ello, that's handy!' That cartoon captured the spirit of Londoners during the war perfectly.

I'll respond to this with three of my favourite aphorisms.
Sigh. I thought I made it clear what I meant by that post.

Apparently not.

Please, people.....please.

This is neither the time or the place for an argument on semantics. If you want a discussion on how to respond to terrorism, do it somewhere else.

For now, my thoughts are totally focussed on the victims and their loved ones. How they must be feeling.

I have just watched the late evening news, all the horror, the pain, the fear.....right here in my home...and all I can do is cry.

Sleep will be a long time coming tonight.

I'm glad to see all of our UK litizens are okay. I've been flooded with emails from friends in Britain and so far everyone I know there seems okay.
My prayers go out to those families to have lost their love ones today.

As an American, I can completely relate to those emotions. My thoughts are with you all in this time of senseless tragedy.

You're quite right, mat. My apologies.
