logue or not to logue

Just a few Q's on pro/epilogues.

I'm writing a story right now that requires a prologue. To post at lit should there be a special format used for pro/epilogues?

The other question I had... How does everyone feel about writing and/or reading pro/epilogues?

I haven't really formed an opinion on the 'logues. I've seen good ones and I've seen bad ones. I think a bad 'logue is one that tells part of the story. That rightly ought to be in the story. I suppose I think of 'logues more as the introduction or the wrapping.

I dunno.

Something about the notion of a prologue on a short story is just a little weird. Bt it's done around here often.

Lit has no formal guidelines. However, I would suggest that you not call it "Story name: Prologue" because that puts it out of order. Lit usually changes titles to Ch. 01 and so on so they'll show up in order on your page.

Point taken, perhaps you're right. I'll re-work the story so that it dosen't have a prologue.

Thank you for your input KM

Do what works best for you. Here's a few links to some authors with prologues or epilogues:

I know there's a few running around where there's a a prologue or epilogue inside, but darned if I can remember the stories at the moment.

Prologue

For a short story, a prologue seems a little awkward. I try to take care of that in the first couple of paragraphs. Set the scene, if that's necessary.

Hope that helps.
