What's the most compelling foodie reason to visit your part of the world? What do you love to eat/drink that can't be had anywhere else in quite the same way?

I miss Miami's cafe con leche but have found an acceptable consolation prize here in Savannah at Leopold's Ice Cream Parlor (downtown on Broughton Street). They hard-pack a scoop of their hyper-creamy homemade Coffee Ice Cream into a cup and pour just-brewed espresso over the top. Eat fast. It goes all melty, lickety-split.

Hmmmm varies. Being right by the Chesapeake Bay there are two reasons...blue claw crab and rockfish. Personally I'm a fan of the rockfish, browned or blackened. Flaky and tender, without too much of a fishy taste to it, they're very popular when in season.

Orlando has lots of good everything. You can find decent restaurants covering the food of the globe.

So our main benefit is the competition international tourists provide.

But my favorite local specialty that can claim proximity to its source: Cuban sandwich. I can't duplicate it at home. Must go out.

Cuban bread, roast pork, ham, swiss cheese, mayonnaise, mustard and pickles, put in a sandwich press until hot and melty.

An egg salad sandwich and vanila Coke at the Timberlake's drug store counter.

I went to New Orleans once just to get a Shrimp PoBoy.

Detroit?

Better Made Potato Chips

Everything in Greek Town

Buddy's Pizza

Superior Fish

Priya's (Indian food)

Beans N Cornbread (soul food)

Incredible variety is the name of the SoCal game. Though the one place in town that made Cuban sandwiches is gone, nearly every other national cuisine has a home here. What's our local best? Hmmmm . . . I'd vote for the murgh makhni at the Kamal Palace on the waterfront. Man, those guys do a tandoori right!

Pecan smoked BBQ. I don't mean pecan wood, I mean whole pecans sprinkled in the fire. It has a whole new sweeter taste even without any kind of sauce.

Barbecue. You have to get to San Antonio for what I think is the best and that's Rudy's, and not just any of the Rudy's. Yuk! Has to be the original outside of town. If you ever go to SA, it's worth the car rental and nav to get you there. Go very hungry.

For real southern fried chicken.

Fried green tomatoes.

You can still get rootbeer floats here.

Real banana pudding.

Cornbread, greens, dumplings and other assorted southern delicacies. ;)

Eat all of that in one sweep and you'll be in the delivery room in no time flat.

Sorry, but the ONLY place to get real Barbecue is Memphis.:)

There used to be a French-Asian place called Chinois where the Crispy Spinach was worth the trip.

I want Crispy Spinach and I want it now.

A place called Sweet Potatoes in Savannah does the only banana pudding I've ever liked. And collard greens all tarted up with lemon juice.

I'm really really hungry now and have boring cold cuts in the fridge. Torture.
