I'll do a word count update each day starting tomorrow. It'll be done around 5pm Central time and I will post here about an hour before I update so anyone who hasn't sent word counts by pm can do so.

Here's my opening. I know it lacks the action so many prefer, and it may find itself pushed down if I can come up with a better opening. But for now, this is it in all it's rough draft glory.

Gritty streets and alleys cut through the city. Trash blew around the feet of the pedestrians as they trudged to their destinations. The sun barely penetrated the protective shield that covered the sprawling metropolis. Outsiders to the planet sensed something missing but most couldn’t quite put their fingers on it. Homelanders knew.

A woman’s touch.

Females were dying with none being born to replace them. Very few women remained, and the ones still living existed in a small containment unit in the heart of the city. It was for their safety. Were they left to roam, most would be attacked within seconds, their bodies ravished by hungry males yearning for the touch and taste of a woman’s skin. It was the same in every city, large or small.

This was Earth 2350.

Interesting concept Crim. So many possibilities. Who controls the women? How? Why? Will the human race survive?
