Once or twice a year, my best friend and I take a trip somewhere for the weekend. Hang out. Shoot the shit. Jerk each other off. No responsibilities. We eat bad food. Go to a comedy show or something. Maybe even something active like making sweaty, bareback love.

It's much, much less Brokeback Mountain than it sounds. I'm looking at you, Suz_anne. You're always trying to gay me up.

I don't know, you do a pretty good job of that all on your own. ;)

My quick fix escape is Bravo TV. If I need to shut my brain off for a little while, the Real Housewives of OC, NYC and Beverly Hills help with that.

When more of a break is needed, I like to head up north to the lake house or take a road trip. A couple of days exploring new scenery does a body good.

Yeah, i kinda derailed my own thread yesterday. Isn't that called "master-somethingorother"?

It feels good to be back in the saddle again. Scratches head, so many topics, so little time. Let's ease our way back in. Life gets super hectic at times, often feeling like we need to cram 30hrs into 24. So that's what we do, we fill our glasses way full and hope not too much spills to the ground. But after awhile, the glass can't be filled again. It needs to be emptied. When you feel that urge/need to escape, even if only for a few minutes, what do you do? Do you announce a break and go wander the countryside for a few days. Do you meditate? Maybe it's the guilty pleasure of watching a movie that you know you really don't have time to be watching.

We all need that escape. What's yours?

Reading....don't fuck with me when I am reading....it is my escape from the big bad real world. Absolutely sublime when it is done up north at the cottage...lakeside, with only the cry of seagulls and the sound of waves lapping against the rocks 30 feet away...

Oh and Lit for when reading doesn't quite cut it and I am feeling like social interaction.....;)

and the kitchen. it's where I do some of my best nesting.. I give a lot of it away.
currently, it's a whole grain gingerbread with a burnt sugar and pecan topping. I think I do it just so the house smells homey..

In the past I would head out to my Grandmother's lake house, and hole up there to escape the insanity. Electricity, but no television, and no neighbors. Perfection. :)

These days it varies. Lit. Reading. Spending all day in bed watching old movies. Exercise. Currently I'm on something of an exercise binge. I like the high, and it has the added bonus of keeping anxiety in check :)

I'm in with Mindfondler, run and run. Exactly what he said is how I roll too.
*high five*
I may need him to step in as my new running coach. My current one is a slacker and let's me off too easy. Plus I think he just likes the image of my boobs bouncing up and down. Hey, just sayin.

Oh Giggle, you should bottle up that smell and sell it to Yankee Candle. I love all their fragrances, but they give me a headache.
I love my house smelling like fresh baked what ever.
So I cook, eat and then run. It's a vicious never ending cycle. Sighs.

A roadtrip by myself with no destination in mind, listening and singing along with all of my favorite music. Works everytime... :)

Interesting reads on escape, although I would have thought someone would have mentioned sex......doesn't someone always mention sex? ;)

I'm a big believer in pushing one's self further than expected. I enjoy it in physical activities outdoors, I enjoy in physical activities indoors ;), I think it's crucial in having success professionally. But there are also times when I opt to stay within expectations and just finish the task and move on. Sometimes it's an easy decision, sometimes I just decide I don't feel like making the extra effort but wind up making it anyway.

How do you handle challenges in your life? Do you rise up to meet them, do you find a way to exceed them or do you look for options that are easier?

Nice question...

My work is very cerebral, and my play more physical (although I also love cerebral leisure activities, reading, theatre, music...). In my physical leisure activities (and I'm not meaning sexual here) I do like to push myself a little bit, I love the subsequent utter physical tiredness that comes from cycling more miles than you thought you could, or up a hill you didn't think you could manage.

At work I like to complete a task successfully and well, I enjoy the response from a satisfied client for whom my work has made their working life easier, or more productive. In general, it's not the done thing to do more than was specified, but there are occasional clients where there is a wonderful interplay of your ideas sparking theirs, which in turn feeds you, and it can be mentally very rewarding to 'create' something together through a meeting of minds.

And I suppose, actually, both those paragraphs could also describe ... Well, I'll leave it there... ;)

Hi. My name is Endless_Night. I am a chocoholic. *lowers head in shame*

Dark chocolate specifically. I could eat it all day long. Every day. For every meal. OMG! :cattail:

But...then I would get fat, feel terrible, loose my edge. I treat my sinful little addiction like I do most challenges. I push back. Exercise, diet. I do my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Maintain my body, my mental acuity.

I rise to meet challenges. I like to excel. :)

Though occasionally, every so often, I just say f*#@ it, and walk away from something, or completely change course. An odd little impulse, that takes me in some offbeat directions.

Well, thank goodness! For a second there I was afraid the admission of my little chocolate addiction had killed the thread!

Chained. Somehow you're more, ummm...muscle-y...than I would have expected. :p

Usually, I meet or rise to the occasion.... blah, blah. Boring question and super dry answer, like crouton dry. Maybe biscotti dry, because it would of been sweet. Almond biscotti dipped in chocolate goodness. Now I'm hungry. Totally off topic. Sorry.

Anyways...my oh my, that's quite the long selfie stick, yes, yes, selfie stick you've got there.
And now I've got the song in my head-- Sexy and I know it by LMFAO.

So apparently yesterday's question was not A material. Definitely true based on the lack of replies. i'll and do better.

Today is Veteran's Day or Rememberance Day or Armistice Day for the old timers ;) and we'll read the words "never forget" countless times. The reality of it is we will forget. By definition the fact that we have to remind ourselves to not forget is an admission that we will. Pearl Harbor Day, mostly forgotten. The Treaty of Ghent definitely forgotten. World War I is barely acknowledged any more. And that's okay, we remember best what we experience. And for what we have all experienced we won't ever forget. So today isn't a question, it's a challenge. Dig into your history books and remember a war, a veteran, a hero that's most likely been forgotten and let it live inside of you at least for today. So many gave so much, it's the least we can do.

Very nice!:rose:

Heroes don't wear capes and tights, they wear dog tags and combat boots.
Thank you to all those that courageously gave their lives and those who bravely fight today.

Actually, if you've ever visited the Somme, or attended the ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres (Ieper), you might feel more confident that we won't forget.

The Menin Gate is astonishing - a memorial to all those who died on the Ypres Salient in the First World War, but who were not given an individual burial, often because their body couldn't be found or was unrecoverable. Over 55,000 names. And those just the unburiable ones...

And every night at 8pm, the Last Post is played there, and the Act of Remembrance performed. There are crowds of people there, all ages, all types, many in tears - one of the most moving things I can recall ever attending. Schoolchildren from many European countries often attend as part of a school trip, and are respectful, engaged and thoughtful, even (especially) the modern cynical teenagers, when I was there.

They've been doing it every day since 1928. Long may it continue.

"This will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." Elmer Davis.

This^ sums it up pretty well for me. Thank you, Veterans. :rose:

I believe it should be a National Holiday for everyone....it is the whole reason why we are living in freedom and why those who are not aspire to become a part of our great nations!

Agreed. It's a day taken far too lightly. :)
