Today's topic:

There are a lot of different types of people here at Lit. And sometimes we converse with people outside of our normal circle of friends. Would you say the people with whom you converse here are people you'd befriend off this board?

I'm curious as to how many people would talk with those that they wouldn't befriend outside of Lit. For sexy reasons or other.

I suppose I only converse here with people I feel like I would befriend outside of LIT, so yes. I'd be friendly and courteous to everyone, of course, but I'm the same way in real life.

Also, thank you for your hard work, Pman.

He's right. I do spend the greater part of the mornings working on these topics. In fact, I've taken a leave of absence from work since Chained appointed me as thread king. I spend no less than three hours per day on each topic.

For me, I don't talk to a load of people here. Just a lucky few. For me, all of those people would be friends off the board. Despite their shitty taste in actors, like Hugh Jackman for instance, I would be friends with them.

Most of the people I visit with here on lit I'd definitely befriend in my real life. There are a select few that I just wouldn't cause well... They're creepers :D. I'm too sweet to say anything. Funny thing though, I don't imagine many of my friends here would be able to handle being a truly good friend in my real life. I'm a horrible friend. I don't call, i don't write, I often just *poof* disappear for weeks at a time, I can't hold a conversation for more than 5 minutes without being interrupted... It's enough to drive people nuts. Thus the reason I come here. I can come and go as I please, and no one really cares if I don't. I hate disappointing people, so I can make no promises here and it's accepted. In a way, my friends here love me more unconditionally than my RL friends. All that being said, come visit with me anytime at all.

This...so this...

I would like to say though, while I would absolutely be friends with everyone with whom I chat, I may not be so lucky to have run into every person with whom I speak. Aside from the geographical differences of Northern Hemisphere versus Southern Hemisphere or US versus Europe or wherever, there are other differences.

For instance, Fakeasmile is a good friend. But she and I probably wouldn't have met a a Nickelback concert or anything. :) However, thanks to Lit, I have been able to meet someone I normally wouldn't.

It makes me wonder...if there were some sort of lit convention (however that would look), how many could and would go? How many would find a way even if they had to fib?

I'd say it was a writing conference...

There used to be this thing called Litogethers. There were a few in Chicago when I first got here. It was everything from swapping and wild hookups to just trying to meet a bunch of folks.

There were only a few of them and then for whatever reason, they weren't held anymore.

I've befriended a few here and they'd be my friends no matter what. I'm also FB friends with a bunch that I met here.

A lit convention would be interesting.

For me, I think I'd rather spend my own time with one person from here. So perhaps I'd peek in, you lot could sing praises to your king, give me gifts and cheer for me, then I'd sneak off and get a handjibber from an Australian. But that's just me.

This is quite an interesting topic, Ruby. How many hours did you have to prepare to come up with such a topic?

Oh...atleast .600th of one

There is someone here that I impulsively befriended on another social media, who has made me question what was I doing. The more I observe on here and there, I rarely agree with what they say, their politics, their friends, or how they treat people on here. There have been other friendships that I've backed off of on Lit for those exact same reasons also.

I've no interest in attending any Litogether, but I would meet a few individually for a beer if the opportunity came up. That's not realistic in any way shape or form, because its highly unlikely anyone would be in my neck of the bush.

I am going to a concert next February and another Litster will also be attending with his wife...maybe we'll just meet at the snack bar or wave from afar...

It's doubtful that person in my post would ever read this so...

Which brings up another question.

Does it ever weird you out when you see someone on FB that has befriended another Litster and you recognize that person when they comment and think it's weird that you know nothing about this friend of a friend but you've seen their tits?

You can always unfriend me.

This^^^^ this is the reason NO ONE here is on my FB. I've contemplated one or two people, but still decided against it.

Not that I've seen their tits. Their cock OTOH.

But that's the fun part. Saying to yourself as you like the latest post, "I've seen that person's naughty bits."

I had a go-bad online friendship recently: another trans woman. I thought we were getting along pretty well, then a topic came up for discussion and I was like "Woah! Suddenly you're a crazy person." We seemed to have stopped talking since.

There've been a couple of friends on Tumblr whose posts just got too much to bear, but others - yes - we definitely click as friends.

So... I think I'd definitely keep the door open to RL friendship but still apply the same common sense approach. No need to cite the online dating things that go bad for people...
