Dental insurance is not actually insurance!!

There's no catastrophic cap and 100/80/50 coverage for preventative/restorative/major work would NEVER fly in the medical world.

It's such a stupid scam that we've all been conned into believing we need. The only thing it does is fix prices, which ironically drives the cost of the entire industry up.

But is a major employer incentive offer to prospective employees. And also why paying cash suddenly lowers and inflated bell...

Ironically it's a $25/month cost.

SMH...Everywhere I've worked my coverage was part of the employment package. That is unless I added dependents at which point it was...ouch... The co-pay thing was always flip-flopping though with different providers.

I like the fact you bring more aspects of it to light with respect to the dental insurance smoke and mirrors.

It's so stupid!

I remember watching the episode of The Simpsons where Lisa needed braces and the Ortho coverage of Homer's plan wasn't great. That has stuck with me.

Being on the other end of the spectrum and providing coverage to my employees, I find it absurd that dental insurance is so coveted when it's basically only a prepayment of your annual cleanings.

America is so back asswards. I was thinking about how Medicare For All would change the country and I don't think many people have thought about a country where noone is held captive by benefits and what that would look like. Employers would have to treat staff well on order to keep them, small business would thrive because the #1 reason for financial insecurity is healthcare costs, and a healthier population would produce more economically.

Sure, thousands upon thousands of people would lose their jobs due to administrative functions no longer being needed (those dental offices all have a processor who's job is to deal with the insurance headaches) and many retirement plans would collapse due to being unethically invested in people remaining sick.

It's hard.
It's stupid.

America fucked up royally when it comes to healthcare.
Noone should have to wait for care because they can't afford it, yet most of us do. I hate the fact that I mentally calculate how much an ER visit will run when my kid has a fever that I know her pediatrician won't touch because of liability issues.

America really deserves better. Especially considering it's home to the most wealth in the world.

I thought there were going to be a shit ton more quicksand emergencies 🤷*♀️

I laughed so hard I woke J up. I forgot all about the quicksand emergencies!

And I tried to find a funny reference to quicksand but instead ended up in a dark and murky underbelly of quicksand fetishists.

The real question is: Should there be a quicksand thread?

Well, I've got to say that all of those hot women mired up in quicksand pictures are by far more interesting than the old B movie outtakes I've viewed.

Jesus, was there really a topic about insurance in here? Thank god it got redirected toward something approaching perverse. I may have to come back and start handing out boring/lame citations. :D

I was well behaved but okay with any pat downs or strip searches you’re giving out. Sprinkle in some bribery, you better believe it baby.

“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

That’s my favourite quote. And it’s so very true. When we are jealous or we compare ourselves to others, we lose our happiness. To be Biblical, we cover our neighbour’s wife or our neighbour’s ass. In my case, I covet my neighbour’s wife’s ass.

In this social media/Facebook/Instagram world, it’s pretty easy to compare and try to keep up with the Joneses. People take fifty selfies before posting the right one. They use filters- both figurative and literal. They post their most amazing and memorable photos that make it look like that’s their life. I see people post pics with their kids who are just being presented as angels when I know those kids have hearts made of pine cones, shit and splinters. It’s better than sad posting, but it’s a very false representation of their whole life.

The problem isn’t people posting the happy moments. I like seeing those. The problem is when we use that as a baseline for our own joy and we compare our lives to the postings on social media.

How susceptible are you to comparing yourself? To jealousy? To wanting that what you don’t have? To letting social media drag you down because you aren’t living the life someone else has?

Or... at Lit, wanting someone who is paired up with another Lister? Jealous bitches.

It is way too early to be thinking this deeply. It is a Sunday...my brain doesnt get turned on until 10am....wtf? Who changed the clocks?

I've pondered this a good deal, and in fact had to constantly battle this effect on my ex wife, who was very susceptible to the cycle of comparison.

Having posted my own fair share of pics in various places over the years, I'm well aware of the struggle for just the right angle, lighting, poses, etc to highlight the good and conceal the bad. I'm aware you'll take 20 snaps to get the one that is then cropped and filtered ( at the least) before posting.

So; I enjoy social media, but take it with a grain of salt. It's a form of entertainment, and seeing others do cool shit can inspire us to get off our collective fat asses and live a little.

Just don't forget, those folk have shitty days as well.

Don't worry. With me, what you see is what you get in terms of pictures. :D

The online world of having perfect pics is everywhere, from Instagram to Twitter.
I’m very close to a women that has an online presence for years now and a large fan following. But the behind scenes of everything from outfit choices, accessories to heavily criticized pics from the photographer took the fun out of it. Constantly being compared to this and that, looking up at the bar and confused, hurt and having to blow it off all takes a toll. I would imagine it’s easy to turn very numb during it all and find that happy space in your head to push through.

Even in the design and art world, all we see is the finished product. No one ever shows the fixes and redos. And more redos and redos.
Shutting (ok, maybe slamming) the laptop and pushing it across the desk or walking away from a painting frustrated - there’s layers and struggled that are all hidden.

I rarely filter any of my pics. Remove blemishes. Nah, been there, done that. B&W is about as far as I go. The best pics of me if I share are the in the moment of me. Not perfect but you can see my eyes and my smile that there’s a glowing confidence. A video message is even better- hear a giggle, facial expressions, a blush coming or leaving. Not sure how much more authentic and true you can get there.

Trekka and I’ve had fun comparing the RL pic (eating a mouthful of cake / I haven't showered or combed my hair today) and then 1 mins later, how we can morph into this perfect selfie sex goddess. Its fun as ever! 😂

Very rarely do I let anything or anyone rain on my parade. If it happens, I have a 90 second pity party, shake it off and keep on a’movin.
I’ve got one life to rock and being the cheeky saucy thing I am, you’d better keep up if you’re coming with me. 😁

I don’t really get jealous of other people very often. Most times, when I see the lives others lead (or pretend to lead), I want nothing to do with it. I’m kind of a weird loner, doesn’t really fit in kind of guy.

As for the pics, it’s fun to present the “best” version of myself (aka good lighting) but that’s about it.

For example, here ^^^^ is a snapshot of me that was taken just this morning.

Jealous? :D
