Y'all make me laugh - like out loud, for real.

And yes, I got turned on by Blade's description of himself in high school and the fact that he ended up with his high school sweetheart. I love that.

I can't tell you how many times I've thought about HW's dangling participle. ;)

Enny OWNED Pmann and that made me LOL loudly.

I cannot stomach modern country music and that video Pmann posted made me laugh and is exactly why. Gimme Willie, Johnny, Dolly... I'm all in.

And this also seemed appropriate...

Does Middle School count?

7th grade: my unbelievably sexy English teacher had a tendency to make several cameos in my dreams that left presents in my pantaloons. :p

In real life, she had a tendency to walk up behind my desk, put her hand on my shoulder and whisper in my ear, “Are you doing okay over here?” You could almost hear the twang of my boner slapping up against the bottom of my desk.

Now, in reality! I had no shot with her. She was an adult and I don’t think I smelled that good back then. But DAMN I wanted it!!!

Obviously it’s for the best that we never completed that sentence, but she never left my participle dangling.

The bad part of us not hooking up, as anyone reading my posts can clearly see, I never did learn proper punctuation. How the hell was I supposed to pay attention%

^^he said pantaloons! 🤣🤣

Well... maybe he watched him some MC Hammer????🙃🙄😜😃

Americana\ red dirt is a genre of its own these days, but is really just shades of country, blues, rock, and folk minus the pop and tractor rap.

Ahem. I believe, sir, that the correct nomenclature for the highlighted portion above is "hick-hop".

Not to be a persnickety pants person, but Hammer pants, parachute pants and pantaloons are three very distinctively different things.

Google, people. ;)

Yes, but the real questions is how many are wearing *pantaloons* or *parachute pants*?

I sorta feel like I should be googling for more *p* types of pants….

You’re looking for pee pants?

Along with the theme of our youthful, bright-eyed, bushy tailed selves comes today's question.

We all had dreams when we were younger that didn't happen. I wanted to be a baseball player when i was a kid. But... Pizza and donuts got in the way, along with changing interests as I got older. Would I rather be a pro baseball player than an engineer? Of course. I would love that. But it's not realistic. I never would have had a shot.

What did you aspire to do when you were younger? Did you do it? If not, why? Are you glad you didn't become that person or make that career choice? Or does a part of you wish it was who you were today?

Here's my topic related song, which is going to be my new thing. I'm very deep.

I wanted to be an astronaut...teachers told me it was impossible, I should strive to be something obtainable. I then wanted to be like Jacques and be an oceanographer. Weird, teachers said there really wasnt any jobs in that field. They suggested I be a vet instead. So off I went...going to be a vet. I ended up being a junkie instead. Vets have access to good drugs.

In high school, more than anything, I wanted to play college football. Mid-season of my senior year, a separated shoulder killed that dream. I was heartbroken, lost and became a party animal in college. A different opportunity came knocking as I ended my college days and set me on a successful path. Shortly after college, I realized what life as a collegiate athlete would have been like. I’m extraordinarily thankful my dream didn’t come to fruition. And, I did have a helluva good time playing flag football in community leagues for several years after college.

Oh, and yes, there was a girl....

Asked and answered.

I bet you had less fleas and worms than any of the other non-veterinary students.

Your response is actually what inspired the question. Thanks, Frenchie.

My answer is a little offbeat.

I wanted to be a scientist. Make cool discoveries and do important stuff. :cattail:

My early environment was not exactly conducive to that dream. It took a bit to get on that track. Years, in fact. Then years again to wade through all the requisite schooling.

Eh. Turns out I loathe lab. Not just loathe. It bores the freaking pants off me. So boring that I find it impossible to focus, which leads to mistakes, which means I'm not good at it and it's a chore.

Awkward.

Labwork is a core component of scientific work. (A little something not necessarily apparent when you see it on tv as a child. :p)

It is supposed to be the easy part. Not so for me. I am just not…hmmm, would you call it mechanically inclined? My strength is the concept work.

I still dabble a little. Vet papers for friends, Stay up on reading in areas of interest. Plus, working through degrees was an exercise in self discipline. I wouldn't say the time was wasted.

So dream, dream deferred, dream attained, dream abandoned?

As a young kid i harbored dreams of being a pro tennis player. The dream was to play at Wimbledon, and while i played competitively at a state level until my mid teens, i realised it was destined to remain a dream.

Professionally i wanted to be a international pilot. While i think the potential was there, a few things conspired against me. Moving states and therefore schools mid secondary school was a bit destabilising, girlfriends took some of my focus away, smoking pot and hanging at the beach all contributed to losing sight of where i wanted to be. I do regret it in some ways, i still have a love of flying, even just being at an airport is enjoyable to me, but in saying that i don't think that kind of lifestyle is conducive to being a very present parent. Im not saying it can't be done successfully, but being a parent has been the most important and satisfying part of my life and im glad i was able to and still can be there for them everyday.
Great choice of song by the way

I work in the “neighborhood” of what I wanted to be when I was a kid. I really only ever had one dream, one direction, one desire and it is something I have to do no matter what and in some capacity. I haven’t achieved it and probably never will—if I did what would I do next? But I will continue to pursuit it. It may be one of those “journey is the thing” careers, but what else is there to do? :)

It's interesting hearing about dreams gone past, and I would expect that to be the norm, either through childhood discards or later circumstance.

I'm curious as to the number who followed through on their dreams and found themselves happy with the choice. That has to be a rarity, right?
