Probably not close at all.
I'm often surprised at the difference between how I view people and how they view themselves. And, why not? We're all products of our beliefs, morality, experiences, and ego. None of which are likely to coincide between individuals. My personal self-perception is likely to be just as colored as the next person's.
It's the large shifts that occasionally leave me flummoxed. The grasping person who sees themselves as generous. The selfish who see themselves as kind. The judgmental that see themselves as loving.
I was thinking about this recently. While I don't think of myself as selfish, I do know that I'm incredibly opportunistic: I WILL accept whatever people offer me, even if societal convention says that I should decline. That said, I am generous with my time, money and - more and more frequently these days - my patience for people.
