I have a Question, inspired by a) a recent conversation with a Litster and b) an experience with a different Litster who shall remain nameless.

How much does a persons reputation impact on your level of interactions with them?

Honestly, not much. As far as reputations go I straight up don't pay much attention.

It's a tough one to answer. Reputation is a such a subjective, observational thing. To the extent that I've seen someone be an asshole to people I know and like, then yes, of course. I'm also of the impression that the women here talk to each other more to the side than the men do, but again, perception.

Corollary: Do you ever think about what your reputation might be around here? I'll confess that I've allowed myself to wonder once or twice.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this because I am, generally, pretty oblivious to reputations around here. But I will say that I consciously try to base my opinions on my actual interactions with individuals.

For example, I am friends with someone who several people expressed negative feelings and "warned" me about. He has never been anything but lovely to me, so that's how I view him. Lovely, quirky, funny and warm.

I try not to listen to the noise. :)

I agree to an extent with LI; I'm a lurker by nature, and will watch how person A interacts with others before I approach. There are definitely some people I won't chat with, just because I have seen them be an ass to others. And yes, most of them have been men; sometimes the testosterone in here is overwhelming

I also used to worry about how people saw me; a few weeks ago, I made a post about how I didn't feel like I had anything to contribute to another thread. Several people, people I had never really interacted, came to my defense, and offered me encouragement. That made me see that I DO make an impact on this site, and I have tried to be more positive because of it.

No impact. I'm not around enough to know what peoples reputations are. I think to even know a persons reputation you kind of have to be in a particular gossip circle, which I'm not. I just see how folks behave/interact and act accordingly.

I don't rely *much* on what I see on the boards. More often than not, I have discovered that your impression of others is based on how they want to be perceived. We all have our quirks and there is nary a one that I've met that completely matched my first impression of them.

I don't worry much about what my own reputation is because truly, I'm not as pooular as Pmann that has to take that into consideration. ;) I make connections and based on our interactions (not inclusive of their public persona) is what determins whether or not that relationship gets passed the pleasantries.

It depends what the reputation is and where did I hear it? Was it from someone with sour grapes? Then I take it with a grain of salt. Was it from someone who I respect or a friend? Then I will take it a bit more seriously.

I mean, some might say I have a reputation of being a bit obnoxious. But those of you who have taken the time to get to know me know that I'm adorable and lovable.

If their reputation is that she has huge boobs, then I'll let it affect me.

And I'm also not sure if Lil Ms Sophie took a swing at me with the popular comment! :p

I too tend to decide for myself based on personal interaction. There are obvious exceptions, when someone is an ass, they are just an ass. In those cases I just steer clear of them. Oftentimes I am blissfully unaware of a posters past, and that works for me.

Ones bad reputation may just be the traits that someone else finds attractive. I suppose it's all subjective.

I tend to get judgey when people have idiot friends, does anyone do that? If so and so are friends with idiots, I kind of think they must be an idiot too. At the very least I lose respect for them.

I wouldn't be so judgey or gossipy myself. *halo*
