That's a common thread theme, wrapped in different words, presented in different ways, all in the name of finding out who is similar to us and who is different. I think for the kinky side of life, we have found more similarities here than dissimilarities. Personality types reflect the cross section of society. But what have you found here that you were not expecting? What totally surprised you? Does it still?

I'm rarely surprised. I guess the only way I am truly surprised is to see how many ways people can cut the same question into numerous different threads.

No, I find more dissimilarities than similarities, but I like that.

When I got here I guess I was pretty naive and I thought I was in the most screwed up relationship there was. I was convinced that I was the only one living this way. What I found here is that I wasn't alone. There are so many people living unhappily, for their own unique reasons. And coping in varied ways. It gave me strength. It doesnt shock me anymore. I've learned that even the most perfect looking relationship can look very different when you're inside it.

And I've learned to post in this thread early in the day before it goes off the rails.

An awful lot of warmth... An embracing and acceptance of different body types, different personality types, different ways of life and different aspirations.

All of which surprised me at first, and I loved it. It doesn't surprise me now, though, I kind of expect it and it seems very jarring when drama arises...

I am still surprised how much it can be like high school though. There are some genuinely good people here. For sure. Then there are some genuine dickweeds also. Or girls that act like this is still high school and form cliques. Or guys that missed their time in high school and now try to be the forum studs.

Most of all, I am surprised at the friends I've made. I've got several people that I REALLY like. And not just because they show me their boobies. In fact, some are greedy little fuckers who won't pony up and who don't understand that's how friendship works here. Nevertheless, there are people here about whom I genuinely care. There are some excellent people here.

I have found real things. Online was always a "fantasy world where things aren't real." Yet, I find real people, real emotions, real issues, real relationships.

I've been online for a long time, so nothing really surprises me anymore. Sometimes I'm impressed by the sheer strangeness or the sheer banality of peoples inner lives, but that is about it.

Not surprised, but more appreciative and impacted. I'm the opposite of Pmann, in that I tend to notice people who do take themselves seriously. For me, those are the people who stand out in a good way. I appreciate a sense of humor, and there are some really witty and funny people here, but I also appreciate a rod up one's ass, and not in any kinky, sexual sort of way. *wink*

I see the meaning and purpose of life as growing into our greatest potential. That's serious business, so I appreciate the intelligence here, the compassion, the warmth, the higher levels of thinking and consciousness, the wonderful, kind, loving and supportive women that reach out to one another, the people who have pursued spirituality and growth and share their wisdom. There are some truly beautiful souls here.

As far as Pmann and Chained being friends...all I can say is, in light of the recent emphasis on similarities and dissimilarities, if there is truth to the jokes of them being the same person, it would be the most shocking thing I've seen in a very long time.
