Searched for other threads on the subject but can't see anything.

Trying to run Lit chat on a MacBook (OS X 10.5.8) but the new chat starts to load then stops and goes no further - any wise words from those in the know as to how to solve/fix ?

Chat is not supported beyond OSX 10.5.7. I recommend reverting to your previous OS and trying again.
