I don't think I had ever heard of Sahl until he somehow landed a radio talk show in Washington back when I was living there. To put it mildly, he was not really suited for that medium.


Linwood Holton, the first relatively pro-civil rights governor of Virginia in the 20th Century (in an era when Republicans were the racial moderates in the Old Dominion), has died at 98. He was more recently in the news as the father-in-law of Tim Kaine. Holton was a native of Big Stone Gap, which is about as remote as it sounds.
