2026 Literotica Competitions and Author-Organized Events

Tall tales tripped me up. I had a few I started to write, but couldn't get them there in the end. I'd wager it did the same to a few others who normally participate.

I got caught up in the "what actually makes a tall tale different?" aspect.
My original thought was something like the Tales of Baron von Munchhausen: weird, fantastical, over the top. No lip service to the suspension of disbelief, just running with the strangeness. Like when Munchhausen and his horse are stuck in a swamp, and he gets them out by grabbing his hair and pulling himself up. Or like my first snippet, climbing up a sunbeam to escape a pursuer.

This sounds wonderful to me, but the recent Tall Tales Writing Exercise drew quite a bit less than the usual response. I'm not saying it's an indication one way or another of whether it would be a popular challenge, just something to consider.
I may start a thread later to gauge interest levels, like you did for the fanfic one. It'd be kind of fun to do an homage to 100 years of Amazing Stories, but I'm probably biased since most of the stuff I write is in that oeuvre already.

Music Challenge is in there now, and WaxPhilosophical has asked to include a Hote; Caifornia event as well in December - bit close to Winer Holidays so I will pencil it in and we can ask Laurel
I'd be fine doing the Hotel California thing as part of a more general music challenge. Seems like there's a lot going on in December already with the holiday contest.

Hello, I'm new to this forum. There's a story outline I have in mind, which I'm hoping to see what much more experienced and talented writers than myself can build on. May I ask if I can add it here as a challenge or if there's any other place where I can put it up?

Hi,

You are misunderstanding the challenges. There are a number of seasonal prize comps and then the site agrees to let authors run events. None of these are taking an outline and writing a story based on this.

We all have our own ideas, often dozens of them. No one is going to flesh out your outline unless you want to commission someone (i.e. pay them).

Also, to be blunt, if you are unable ot flesh out the outline yourself, it’s likely not a great outline.

Hello,

I have an outline in mind. Fleshing out is no problem. I just don't know where to post it and what are the options available for it. When I mean outline, I can contribute a few paragraphs to describe what the story I have in mind will contain. If it's not, take it as the premises of a story. Let's just say it's some ideas I'm hoping someone can help me build on and or expand or fashion into a story.

Fair enough. I can consider paying a small sum of money (in the tens) for anybody able to flesh out a story based on it.

I'm still new to all this. I've read tens of stories over the past number of months. I've no actual experience but I believe I've a little talent as a writer. Reading some of these stories inspires me to come up with a different twist more in line with my own taste. Some of the stories are good enough for me to get off but I've found writing does give me a stronger release when I can make things happen the way I want them.

If you've got the ideas, start writing. You don't need anyone to say yes to story ideas. Just don't plagiarise other writers' work, and don't use someone else's characters without their explicit approval.

If you don't think you can write, but have ideas for stories, start a thread in the Story Ideas forum. That's what it's for.

#1 You're posting in the wrong thread. This is about author challenges, contests we host that are themed events throughout the year. This isn't the place for new authors to discuss their ideas. Here is the area of the forum where authors discuss their story ideas. https://forum.literotica.com/forums/story-ideas.2/

Keeping the discussion areas focused helps everyone manage their movement about the forum. Where people can find the subjects they are looking for.

#2 Check out this thread here. It's about self-editing for authors. There is valuable information here about writing, editing and submitting your story. https://forum.literotica.com/threads/self-editing-for-authors.1634588/page-6#post-101586621

#3 Here is a section of Writers Resources. Read it. Then consider writing. https://www.literotica.com/resources/writer-resources

That's a couple of places to start.

Does being inspired by other people's stories to give it a different twist count as plagiarizing.

What I have in mind is a story inspired by another but I'm retelling it my own way or making it happen the way I want to.

Plagiarism is using another writer's words in a demonstrably equivalent manner: entire sentences the same, able to be seen in a side by side comparison of the texts.

Being inspired by an earlier story is okay, provided your version is sufficiently different that any reasonable person would say, that's a new story, the characters are different, the plots are different, it's a new piece of writing. Whether it's truly original is up to you to decide, I guess. I don't get the frequently expressed desire to use or adapt or modify the ending of someone else's story, but it's a common thing. "Write your own story" is also a fairly common response.

Yeah - not gonna happen. Writing is hard and time-consuming work. And this discussion should probably continue in Story Ideas as suggested by others.

Proposed idea: 4 the hard way.
Write the same sex scene from 4 different points of view.
2 are people involved in the act
1 person aware of, but not participating in, the act
1 author’s choice

This would be more in the nature of a writing exercise, but could lead to some interesting reading.
Is this something people would be interested in?

Maybe post a thread asking

I had a similar thought to try writing the parts of both partners in two stories leading to the same spicy interaction. His and her POV ( or his/his or hers/hers, I'm not sure yet what stories to create.)

Just interested to see two people from different backgrounds coming (and cumming) together.

Start a new thread to discuss out and see if there's enough interest

If there is, then it would need to be taken to Laurel for approval - there's a seperate thread on Writing Exercises and it would probably better go under that, than a formal "Writing Event"

These Competitions and Events are all coming up in the first few months of 2026 - and we all know how time flies. Why don't we start the Support Pages for these Competitions and Events now to give everyone a headsup. If Laurel changes the dates slightly, we can just tweak the Support Pages to reflect these.

The Competition Support Pages have a fairly standard format so if we can all stick to more or less the same layout for those, that'd be great :)

For the events - everyone running these (except for "Tainted Love" which we don't have Laurel's approval for yet) has done them before so go for it!!! You all know the story

Withdrawing this suggestion, there doesn’t seem to be any interest.
I’m going to throw out another on for November.
