However, seeing you’re a member of the fairer sex and an arty type person to boot I feel more inclined to respond to you to than to the creepy, sick ALTS sent out from AHland.

(And yes, women generally aren’t quite as talented when it comes to the juggling of numbers or other scientific pursuits. And NO ladies, this is not meant as some attempt to put females down – it’s just an acknowledgement of proven scientific statistical facts. And I’m quite ready to concede there are exceptions to this general rule…

(And it’s another proven fact that the more ARTY types like you my dear – especially given your skills both as a poet and artist – are often less attuned to the music of numbers. And it’s not just female artists! One only has to test the mathematical abilities of a group of “artsy” gay males to confirm the effect of art on the ability to multiply. And of course there are exceptions here too…

So don’t feel too bad.

Fortunately yours truly was blessed at birth. You might even say I’m bi in my mental (as opposed to sexual) talents. Both able to pen a best seller one day and then follow it up the next with some algebraic insight that can dazzle a room full of mathematicians…

So why are the number of VOTES important?

First you have to ask yourself exactly what a vote represents. What does each individual vote represent? Who made it? Why? Is a vote more important than a view? What is a view? Why do so few readers (percentage wise) vote? Etc., etc.

And only after you’ve asked yourself the first questions can you address the second. Why are 10 better than 1? 50 better than 10? 500 better than 50? And then 1000+…

Even the QUEEN (and perhaps even more importantly the REALM’S brilliant numbers man PRINCE MANU ) has recently acknowledged the importance of the quantity of votes as opposed to the quality of them. Which is the main reason for the recent changes on the various TOP STORY by category lists, of why the total number of votes required to qualify for these lists was raised from only 10 to 100 in most cases.

And while the recent changes were a step in the right direction (and I commend Her Highness for taking them even though faced with protests from the cheaters in AHland), there is a lot more work to be done. I have already sent many of my ideas on this subject to the QUEEN .

Raising minimum vote totals for contest entries is the next project MANU has to tackle – everyone knows these 25 vote winners are being propelled to the top by a coterie of AH plotters.

All I can tell you my dear is that a reader who votes me 2 or a 3 or a 4 is much more important to me than a reported VIEW. I’d trade 50,000 VIEWS for 500 votes any day of the week. At least I know that the reader who voted got to the end of my story. And was moved enough by it (in whatever way) to take the time to vote.

It’s of course why the number of comments (and emails received) is also important.

Quantity of votes is extraordinarily important. I believe every story should have the number of VOTES it received right next to the rating listed for the story. And I believe the ROYAL FAMILY is slowly coming around to my point of view.

We needed a high threshold for membership so that even the infamous ballot box stuffers in our midst would be challenged to amass the number of votes required. And I must warn those who have been using nefarious schemes to get to 1000 that we’re on to your tricks. We’ve already identified two cheats who are trying to get in (no I won’t identify them here) and I can promise them and you that they’ll be black balled.

As to why pick 1000 as the threshold – well first it’s a round number that catches the eye. But mainly it was chosen because at the time it produced just enough stories and authors to be both EXCLUSIVE and INCLUSIVE at the same time.

We’ve managed to get stories and writers from just about every genre while still making membership a great honor.

Only about 1 out of every 1500 stories will make it!

Only 1 out of every 1000 authors will make it!

We’re an exclusive club that welcomes members from every race and creed, from every sexual orientation, from every nationality, from every perverted point of view.

All we simply ask that you write a story and get 1000 INDEPENDANT READERS to vote on it. Then you’re welcomed into our midst.

Sorry but the number for the monthly and yearly top lists is still 10. The only change was in the all time top list. You're still not on it by the way.

Quantity of votes is extraordinarily important. I believe every story should have the number of VOTES it received right next to the rating listed for the story. And I believe the ROYAL FAMILY is slowly coming around to my point of view.

We needed a high threshold for membership so that even the infamous ballot box stuffers in our midst would be challenged to amass the number of votes required. And I must warn those who have been using nefarious schemes to get to 1000 that we’re on to your tricks. We’ve already identified two cheats who are trying to get in (no I won’t identify them here) and I can promise them and you that they’ll be black balled. Yeah, two cheaters and I can name them without looking. Scouries and Sarahhh

As to why pick 1000 as the threshold – well first it’s a round number that catches the eye. But mainly it was chosen because at the time it produced just enough stories and authors to be both EXCLUSIVE and INCLUSIVE at the same time. At the time he started it, he thought he was the top dog. So it was his way of getting on the top of a list. even if it was just one he made up.

We’ve managed to get stories and writers from just about every genre while still making membership a great honor.

Only about 1 out of every 1500 stories will make it! I'd like to see how you came up with that number since you have no idea of how many stories are even posted here.

The writing is blue is the rebuttals to Scouries bullshit. There is no AH cheaters/plotters. There are some very fine writers there but to Scouries and Sarahhh they are the reason they don't win contests. It has nothing to do with their crappy half assed stories.

Give it a rest scouries, you've been beating this dead horse for two years now and you still haven't done any better. Take this time and use it to improve your writing and then you might actually amaze yourself and win something.
