After reading a few threads here including one that was meant to take some of the heat out of the arguments around here... I have a question

What happened to common decency? What happened to being polite? I do not mean not disagreeing but resorting to bashing and name calling seems to be so beyond the level of intellect of the majority of posters here.

I know I am primarily a fluff poster so...Im sure this will just float away, but it is rediculous. Just another thread stating the obvious.

You know what? This is silly. The vast majority of people who would respond well to this post and agree with you only dump on the nutjobs, and are generally polite in their banter with everyone else.

Here's the thing. In real life you have to be polite, you don't ALWAYS get to speak your mind.

Here, it's very freeing to be able to say whatever the hell you please. If I think someone is being a moron, I can say it. If I think someone is sexy as fuck, I can say it. If I think someone deserves to be brought down a peg, I can take my shot at doing so.

It's pretty fucking cool to have that kind of freedom. I'll take the bad with the good.

DCL~ It just seems there is much more bashing then usual.
I should look up Laurels Cycle post.

Glam~ Hiya I do expect you arre speaking to DCL

BTW this is in no way referanceing anyone in particular or any particular thread....just me with too much time on my hands.

Another fluffer!

Didn’t you hear? Politeness went out around the same time as suits of armor.

ya know, this is a board which encourages free speech with little reguard for who is doing the speaking. I guess if we dont like something we ought not read or respond to it. If we choose to engage in mindless argument with mindless people we deserve what we get.

Suits of armor NEVER go out. Trust me.

I guess for me it is about some deliberatly catty and rude posts/threads that are appearing. Sometimes I just really wonder..... is it really necessary?

I can somewhat understand Sunstrucks point but I guess for me, I just dont go there...

Honestly, if Lit was just fluff and nicey nicey stuff.. it would get rather boring. Yes people, including myself, get mean at times. But it's just part of the "community". You have good people, bad people, nice people, mean people and all of the above combined people in real life.. and at Lit.

No one can change it.. all you (universal you.. not personal you) can do is avoid it.. and don't get involved.

To add:
Some people are open to PM's, most people on the GB feel that everything has to been aired and settled on a thread. If a post is troubling PM the person to get a better idea. It prevents foot in mouth disease and is very courteous.

Kitte;

The kind of disassociative behavior on BB's (illustrated above by Sunstruck in this thread) was predicted quite early in the development of the public internet by Vinton Cerf and has been noted by psychologists studying internet interactive behavior... and is generally covered by something called Netiquette.

Netiquette and disassociative behavior is something I've tried starting discussions on here on the GB and on the BDSM Forum, with varying results.

If you google Netiquette, Vinton Cerf or Bulliten Board Psychology as search terms, there are many authoritative papers to read.

Some people will use the anonymity here as a way to place greater emphasis on parts of their personality that don't get as much airtime IRL. Sunstruck, for example, says above that she normally doesn't tell people to fuck off or call them morons IRL.

I think we all use different mediums as varying expressions of our total selves.

But when people "go overboard" with their disassociative selves it can create a cognitive dissonance of sorts within themselves that has been studied in internet users on BB's and RPG's for example.

This leads to the occasional flip-outs, rants and "LitBreaks", for example.

I'm not saying these people are crazy or need help; it's more like static electricity from the friction between their IRL Self and their BB Self...every so often it will release in a quick Zap.

Those are my thoughts.

This is one of those times when Lance isn't being an ass. Pay attention class.

I remember this report, or one like it. Point agreed. I feel more free on the net to express my opinions than in the real world. And I can go spaztic here in creative ways, where in reality, I'd probably get my head blown off.

so Lance, what you're saying is PC, Rawhumor and Jazzman arent shit talkers IRL?
*makes a note

It's not an absolute, DeSade and doesn't apply universally...few things do when it comes to people, I find.

I'll bet they're all pleasant individuals.

I would say the occurance of disassociative behavior is not by any means an absolute, or even the majority of occurances.

Many people post as they are in r/l, more or less.
