I'm kind of curious. Do the people you know in the real world know about your Lit habit? Would they be shocked? Would they think it makes perfect sense? Have you already shown them the address?

Doubt a couple of my friends would be shocked.. and as for the rest, well, if they're shocked then I just don't care :D they're probably jealous they didn't know about lit!

I picked the option that says I have friends here. Casual acquaintences don't know, don't need to know. But I know several Litizens offline, face to face and all that. I've even "been with" three of them, whom I'm close enough to that I'm spending Thanksgiving's with them and their families. (Yes, that was plural. Canadian Thanksgiving is with my Domme's family -which includes another Litizen- and US Thanksgiving with another friend.)

My RL friends and my family would be shocked.

My husband's a Litster, and even though I've tried, I can't get him to post very often.

B knows I hang out here. He has absolutely no interest in it. I don't think he even knows what kind of forum it is.

The only one of my family that wouldn't be shocked is my mom. She is incredibly cool that way.

Real life folks would be super-shocked. Hubby, I think, knows...our computers are in the same room and I'm sure he's seen me on here, but he's not comfortable talking about sex, much less reading about it. Online friends....about 80% wouldn't be shocked at all and the others only a bit.

I'm in the same boat as Eilan on this one.

IMs

It's so funny that this survey is up...I just recently put a link to this site on my Instant Messenger, and a friend of mine, who's been in London for the past month IM's me and says, "You read Literotica?"

I could have died laughing, I told him I mostly post. I don't think he believed me...I wish I could have seen his face!

Yeah, yeah yeah. So sharp and witty tonight!

Actually my best Real World encounter was happening across some porn on a computer at my work place. The person in question isn't actually an employee of my company, but a contractor in for a special project, and since it hasn't happened again, we decided to just let it go. The funny thing though was going through his history and not only finding links to Lit, but his username as well. Even wierder was finding links to one of MY STORIES!!!!!

Now I see this guy everyday, and it's always a mixture between creeped out knowing that the guy was surfing porn (because he looks a lot like my dad), and the desire to ask him what he thought of the story.

A guy who worked in my group actually got fired over porn. The real trick was that he imported the porn onto a classified network (as in not connected to the internet at all). My company has zero tolerance for porn at work, and it is always a part of the annual ethics training.

Oh, to publically answer my own question... Pretty much everyone would be absolutely shocked. Except one girl I dated who knows.

Whoo boy, that'd be interesting. Most of my friends think I'm the quintessential good girl. And I'm not even going to think about my family. They freaked out when I cut all my hair off.

Everyone I know would be shocked. Not so much by my posts because most of them are pretty tame but by the fact that I even log on to a sex board. They'd also be shocked to see some of my AV's and profile pics.

**Actually one day I was telling my friend about one of the posts on "a board I chat on" and she asked me for the address. My only thought was "Ya Right"! I'd never give this URL to anybody I know in real life.

I picked Door #3 (My close friends wouldn't be surprised at all), but it's really a tad more toward #4.

Some OL acquaintainces on another BB were here before I was, or came here after I mentioned it. RL friends who aren't particularly close probably wouldn't be surprised. However, the few close friends I haven't yet told would likely be PO'ed to find out I've deprived them of this delicious little corner of Cyberia. :catroar:

As for shocked, I'm sure ALL my family would be flaggergasted. Well, save two. Uptight, sexless, ashamed, the lot of them. *sad* Fortunately, I rarely interact with any of them, and those with whom I do (or did) would respect my sovereignty and refrain from comment. As silver said, I don't really care what they think.

add: Now that I think about, telling others about Lit must be something of a litmus test of my trust in them. Those I've selected to tell is based on their generally laissez faire attitudes. I guess I would be colored shocked to find my confidence was misplaced.

Great polling topic, oms. :rose:

Barring the two people who know I post here in RL and the few online acquaintances I have encountered everyone else would be totally amazed and the majority would be horrified.

I've had a good bit of fun dropping tidbits from Lit into my casual conversations under controlled circumstances. I still remember that I needed to visit the dry cleaner after describing to a friend over lunch a thread I'd seen about a dildo designed to be strapped to a washing machine to take advantage of the washer's vibrations. My writer's group regularly gets to hear some of the latest wild how-to thread topics and I have a few regular lunch partners who enjoy hearing stories from here. I've given the url to a couple of them who have asked.

My weirdest moment in this regard came about two years ago. I decided to log onto Lit while I was visiting my parents on a morning when they were out. As soon as I got a few letters into the url on my father's computer, a dozen or more Lit page urls appeared in the browser address window history! I examined those urls carefully to make sure that he and I weren't unknowing online buddies. Fortunately, they were all for stories and not for any forum pages. I'm sure that my dad would not be at all surprised at my participation here, nor would any of my siblings. The wifely one's family, otoh, would all suffer coronaries (hmmm.....).

Those I've selected to tell I have must trust with in the first place due to their general laissez faire attitudes. So I would be shocked to find out if anyone I chose to confide it was shocked about me. I hope that made sense.

#3 for me, my close friends wouldn't be surprised at all. I've even recommended it to my best friend, but I don't think she's been on here yet.

As for the other people who know me.. they would be completely shocked and/or horrified.

It's always nice to see one of the sisterhood. :rose:

lit is the one forum i don't really tell anyone about (i also frequent other forums), but if my friends found out, they'd probably not be surprised...

M knows, obviously. I told one friend ever, but don't know if she has ever been here. Would friends be surprised or shocked? I don't think so. Still, I prefer to keep it for myself so I can feel free to discuss everything and anything I want without thinking about if I might insult or hurt someone. M reads and lurks here sometimes; there is nothing he does not know already that I post here.

My boyfriend knows and any of my close friends wouldn't be surprised but not-so-close friends would probably be shocked
