Lit Names, Real Life

He embraced it.
But I've said it before, SilvaTungDevil is an oft underrated comic genius.

And he smells good, too. Like old tacos and bongwater.

Since I don't talk to anyone offline it isn't so much of an issue, but I tend to think of and refer to people as their Lit names, even if I know their actual name.

If I could only get an air freshener for my car with that scent...

i don't remember anyone's real name, so it doesn't really matter for me. i either don't call them anything or i make up my own nickname for them.

I was talking to someone on the phone and she says to her partner, "It's ksmybuttons!" (with a wonderful southern accent, I might add.)

Cring.

"Hello, ksmybuttons here..."

Maybe that's one of the reasons I don't meet many lit people in 3D.

I forgot your name like 5 mins after learning it.

I'm known by a thousand different real life names, whats the difference?

it isn't all that weird really.
i call people by their call signs all the time.

not that i am apart of this lit group which calls, meets, and or screw eachother on a regular baises to have this type of problem occur.

i guess its normal for me because i come from a military familiy.

Man, I want to be a part of that group. Where do they meet, Paul?

The name thing varies. Usually if the conversation is light hearted the Lit Nic applies, though I find when discussing issues that are serious I work at calling people by their actual name. No hard or fast rules apply really though. I am quite happy being called either name , same person different tags. Rebecca is not a 'character', just a another safety net and the only name I have ever used since I started coming online several years ago. I feel that makes me accountable to some degree.

I do find the closer I get to knowing a person and the more their interaction extends out of Lit and IM and into my general life , the more I feel it's important to assimilate their actual name.

i told you i am not apart of that.

i can not disassamble, discomboggle, or break into tiny parts their collective group to their for find a path of which into their fold.

Considering that I've only met one person from Lit, and his real name was his screenname for a long time, it was no problem for me to be accustomed to using his real name.

He's never referred to me by my screenname offline. He's always used a shortened version of my real name (a nickname). I actually prefer to be called by my whole first name, but it's a long name, so most people shorten it, and I've grown used to going by the nickname.

I used to work in radio, where 95% or more people use fake names. I always tended to call the person by the first name that I was introduced to them with. Sometimes it was their real name, other times it was their on-air name.

couldnt really say.
my real name isnt much tougher than "katie" so it's hard to give an opinion.

I can't help it. I have met several online friends over the years. I have a hard time calling them by their real names after a long while of calling them by their nicks.

which, by the way, is extremely misleading.

I just call you by my nickname for you, makes no difference that I know your name

After awhile you just meet so many people its not as easy to remember their real names.
