BRASS MONKEYS Theres a saying over here "Its cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey"I don't know if you have the same saying over there , but it comes from the days when ships used to carry cannon balls.
The balls were stacked in a pyramid one at the top 4 under etc. They were held in this postion by a brass triangle at the base known as a monkey.When the temperature got to below freezing the brass triangle would shrink as brass does,(she says knowingly) then the balls would topple over . Hence the saying ITS COLD ENOUGH TO FREEZE THE BALLS OFF A BRASS MONKEY Another bit of useless information. :D :D :D

I have heard that saying so many times... never did know it's origin tho... very interesting...:D

It has got a little bit warmer but its still BRASS MONKEYS, LOL. I've still got Grace Kelly hanging around but i hav'nt had time to put it together yet. ;)

I was looking for brass monkeys on the internet because i wanted to know if their balls really do drop off (i could have animated it, hee .hee) so it gave me that information instead :D :D :D

Sorry about your weather. As long as I do not have to shovel, finally got the key that I misplaced for the blower, I enjoy the snow. I do however look like Nanuk of the North, all bundled up, but I am comfortable and warm, not very fashion concious, but cozy.

Hope you get all your shopping done. "She who shops" enjoys it so much I let her buy.

I can relate to that pic...living in Colorado...been a few years ago...it was -40 degrees...me and a lady were in the hot tub 104 degrees...it was so steamy we couldn't see each other and to make matters worse...my beer and her wine kept freezing..
Course it was steamy when we went to bed too...but thats a different type of "steamy"

Ok Lips hon here is the test and it is the wrong one need the one with me and leia in it hon.
 
Lips, you really should try the long johns with matching top. They are available in red. Get them for yourself for Christmas. You will look good in them and they will keep you warm.

My wife has a pair. Helped to pick them out for her and when it gets really cold she will wear them and she does stay warm.

For at home there is always the cold feet under Mikey's butt to warm up, but be gentle. A cold touch has a withering effect on certain parts.:)

Long Johns can be sexy, But the only way the one peice WITH the flap in the back is, if you drop it bend over & say DO ME!
Had an ex with a pair. But were so big on her it didnt look right from the get go. except for the do me part.:D She stayed warm, & I got the nice warm wet stuff.:)

Found this at the same site & thought it was perfuckt for putting here.

ok took me an hour and a half togo back thru and get all the right number codes for the star wars gifs so i'll be changing them every now and then

I knew that Lips! Lot's of great sayings and idioms come from the British iron and sail naval era.

We eat 3 square meals a day because the English navy served it's meals on square wooden plates.

going off like a loose cannon - nothing more dangerous on a pitching deck than two tons of cannon rolling free

That's just off the top of my head. Oh yeah, that's another one. Going to the head and getting head. Because it the bow, or head, of a sailing ship was about the only place one could get a bit of visual privacy.
 
BTW. they made the monkey out of brass because the iron cannon balls wouldn't "rust" solid to the brass the way they would to earlier iron monkeys.

BTW "going to the head" is the toilet, & it originated back in the sailing days. They had no outhouse so you went over board, so you wouldnt stand at the back of the boat if thats were the WIND was coming from.:eek:
