For me, I think there are a few reasons. At least one has to do with the fact that I can more often get away with staring at it public. availability can influence desire. I will also admit to an early fascination with anal sex.part of that has to do with that it was a much more taboo thing when I was younger. In 1984, if you could say you'd done a woman in the ass, you were a hero to your male peer group... (I chose '84 because that's when I graduated high school. It's also highly likely that was the last year I was willing to discuss what I did with a woman with "the guys." The vast majority of my sexual discussions since have been with females.) The gradual acceptance of women in public in thongs caught my attention, but I don't think it made me more of an ass man... if anything, it made me more aware of still covered areas.
