As a high school teacher, many of my students swear like sailors. I explained multiple times that swearing often shows a lack of intellectual integrity. Their response..."when is it acceptable to swear then?"

In my life...in traffic and during sex are the only times I swear.

Am I missing other acceptable times?

Can they at least diagram the sentence with the swear words included?

People fall into speech habits. I'd rather deal with a cursing habit than a valley girl habit. I'm wondering how many times I can use habit before I press submit. Maybe it's my habit.

i fucking swear whenever the fuck i fucking feel like fucking swearing, you stupid fucker.

also, i prefer buggery.

as a stereotype for sailors.

also, just in general, really.

Never come to Boston.
That's all I'm fuckin' sayin'

I think it implies a lack of intelligence and I find it deeply offensive. There is no acceptable time to use filthy words.

why do you wish to limit people's vocabularies? overuse of any word is annoying. 'like' is like totally like overused like. but do you tell your students that using the word 'like' shows a lack of intellectual integrity?

they're just words, for fuck's sake.
they're just words, for heaven's sake.
I see no difference.

Cunt.

I rarely, if ever, swear. I grew up in a home where my dad and brothers swore like sailors. My sister swears up a storm, too. I just never got into the habit of it so when I do let a swear word slip out, it sounds foreign to my own ears. I feel like a fraud when I do it, like im trying to fit in. Im not offended by it at all and am used to hearing swearing everyday from just about everyone I know. I think that as a society, we've become immune to rude language.

Cogito, ergo sum.

I AM a sailorman, therefore I swear.

I was told by a paramedic as I was riding in an ambulance that swearing was allowed and might make me feel less pain.

There are no dirty words.

How can you make dirty words with clean letters? If you take the letters from the dirty words out of your alphabet, you won't be able to spell much.

Also note that most of the "dirty" words have Anglo-Saxon origins. Labeling those words as "dirty" is a form of racism.

Think about it. You can say "manure", or "fertilizer", or "excrement". If you say it in French, "merde", you are sophisticated.

And in every instance you are saying SHIT.

If you want 4-letter words that are offensive, I'd suggest "rape" and "kill".

Rather than present it to them as a negative, why not present it as a challenge? Who can write the most insulting, degrading description of an opponent without using profanity? Teach them to extend their vocabulary, not limit it.

You blankety-blank obscenity, I delete you all over your censored.

Do your students know you visit a porn site for advice?
For Fuck's sake!
