Our protagonist, Polly, is a young lass, just 18, educated abroad at an all girl's boarding school while her parents travelled for work.
In the fall, she will start university. Her parents decide she should stay with her Aunt. The aunt decides Polly should get a summer job. Polly has never worked before, was a competitive swimmer at school. Very shy, very serious.
Aunt arranges that Polly get a summer job lifeguarding at a public pool (Auntie is sleeping with the Parks Director).
Polly shows up for the first day of training. No man or boy has ever seen her up close in her swimsuit (at meets, they were all in the stands, where she never paid attention). First morning is CPR. The Afternoon is "mouth to mouth"....
