Let's Get Deep

I:heart:carbs.
Lol

Why is that do you think? (Not the carbs that goes without saying because carbs are delicious) but why do people struggle to have meaningful conversations?
Isn’t listening and exchanging ideas what we do naturally?
I wonder if this is one of those traits that gets educated out of us as we grow up.
It shouldn’t be.
Thoughts?

There was a time when it was okay for two friends to have differing opinions, but it seems like times are changing. Sure, we used to fight and argue about things, but it never ended a relationship. Now it seems like you're a fucking prick if you voted for the other guy, or don't believe in religion, or some other thing person A likes or loves and person B doesn't.

I think that much of it comes down to (for me) I end friendships when I am forced to question someone's humanity. When their differing opinion shows me that they view people differently than I do.
I struggle with that. Then I question whether or not I want them in my life at all, but it's rarely who you voted for or if you believe in religion.

I guess it can get tricky, because some things are more personal to one person vs another. As far as humanity goes, I believe you're right. Do unto others as you would have done unto you. I believe that in my heart, and I take it seriously.

Not to butt in, but I think part of the problem today is that the definition of "moral" has changed over time. Once upon a time, premarital sex was "immoral", but is now accepted (and in some cases encouraged). The death penalty was once considered a justified deterent, but now many consider it inhuman. Times change, and with it, so does society. Sometimes in fits and starts, sometimes all at once. It's how we react to the change, and how we react to others that is what should matter.

You didn't butt in, lol.

You made some great points, that I agree with. I think we need to remember that at one time most people were influenced by the bible. As the world progresses I think less and less people are. I think where the problem comes in, is when you throw away the basics like being kind to others.

This song is my mantra. Humble and Kind

I think you might be right to some degree.

I said to someone the other day that I think it's because Mr. Rogers died.
People aren't growing up learning to be nice anymore. Society places no value on nice.
In fact I've had more than one person here tell me I was "Too nice" and mean it in a less than flattering way.
Or people see nice as weak or vulnerable.
