Let it snow!

You laugh but we've been going through a very long drought--and snow on the mountains comes our way as water in the summer, so we need an abundance of that. So, please, DO send it here.

Remember, we pay for this eternal summer (no rain, no snow) with fire seasons that, lately, have been burning up thousands of acres every August-November like clockwork. We need what you've got!

That's because Ma Nature is out of wack and giving us your share of the goods. I can remember some serious droughts when the family farm was in bad shape and not enough water to give the stock. Wells dried up, streams disappeared and ponds became stagnant mudholes too dangerous to let the animals near.

The rain this year, though, is a different hazzard. And now they say this winter will be an unusually snowy one. If I could, I would send the whole of California half of all we get. Things would be about even then.

The show outside my front window is entertaining, to say the least.

You see, we've had a lot of rain this year. When I say a lot, I mean an abundance so overwhelming that the rivers are still swollen. Here, in the river bottoms, that much rain causes several issues. One of those issues is every crawlspace in my neighborhood is still pumping water into the yards and streets.

The planners of this subdivision were not very bright. They didn't put any storm drains in the back part. I don't think they were planning ahead for growth. Anyway, with nowhere else to go, the water has collected in the street out front and, with the frigid temps, has turned into a lovely skating rink.

On top of that ice lies 6 inches of snow. The snow plow finally decided to come through and took the corner a little too quick. Since I live on said corner, I'm used to people ending up in my front yard. I'm just not used to seeing several tons of truck and salt sitting 'neath yon maple tree.

:D:devil::D

If the son-of-a-bitch takes out my mailbox again this year, I'm going to set the hounds of hell on his ass.

Still, it's all very fun to watch. He's trying to figure out the best way to remove his equipment without tearing up my lawn and landscaping and facing a possible lawsuit against the county.

Don't worry, partner. I won't sue. But you will find yourself out there this spring, fixing it all with your own hands.

Or a simple claim for compensation to make good the damage ?
I wish you could take pictures. It sounds fun!"

Half the neighborhood turned out--dogs barking, kids screaming, parents laughing. The poor man was mortified. I told him to just put the damned thing in gear and drive it out. The truly funny thing was he looked at me as if he hadn't thought of that.

Damn. Didn't think to take pics. Where were you earlier when I needed the inspiration?

Good morning! Yup...snow day here too! 13 year old is VERY happy to have a 4-day weekend! I am very happy to have a 13 year home to help me with the chores! :D See...it all works out.

8-year-old is being very stubborn about chores. She whines one more time and I may put her out in the cold.

No, wait. I already did that. She's beign forced to walk the dog. :D

I hear ya! Though, mine begged me to find some trash for her to take out last night, so she could play in the snow at 10pm! But, since I slipped yesterday in the snow and hurt myself, kiddo is gonna have to help mom clean today. Warned her last night. She's rethinking having a snow day is a good thing right now. :D

Sometimes its fun to be a mom!

Kids are fun.

The snow plow just came through again. Same driver as yesterday. This time he slowed way down for the corner. :D No show today.

Awww....well, at least he learned from his mistakes! :D
Why am I having visions of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow"?

I spoke too soon. There's a pickup on my lawn right now. He started to tear-ass out until I stepped out the door. Now he's very carefully working his way around the fire hydrant and my shrubs so as not to cause too much damage.

Why am I having visions of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow"?

Ah, but if that movie were coming true, you would not be having visions at all. We'd all be frozen solid by now.

Snow day once more. No more snow, though. I think the rationale was "Oh, it's Friday. What the hell, might as well."

Same here. It's just flurries today, but we do have record low temps. 30 below wind chill really sucks. Brrrrrr!

Same thing going on here, although we have blowing and drifting snow. Just took the kid to town for lunch (needed to get out) and the roads are pretty slick. We did donuts out front just for fun. :D No sense in everyone else getting to have all the fun. Even my car ended up in the front yard. :p

They are forecasting snow showers for Florida down through Melbourne tonight.

It's only supposed to get down to 40°F here tonight. Tomorrow on the other hand we're supposed to stay right around 45°F and rainy all day and then drop down to 33°F tomorrow night. (With the same for Sunday.)

Snow in the tropics. What will they think of next?

If it weren't for Global Warming things could be a lot worse!

Iguanas dropping from trees. England a frozen wasteland. My recipe for fudge failing.

I tell you, it's the end of the world!
