Unfortunate lessons girls learn from Twilight:

1. If a boy is aloof, stand-offish, ignores you or is just plain rude, it is because he is secretly in love with you — and you are the point of his existence.

2. Secrets are good — especially life-threatening ones.

3. It’s OK for a potential romantic interest to be dimwitted, violent and vengeful — as long as he has great abs.

4. If a boy tells you to stay away from him because he is dangerous and may even kill you, he must be the love of your life. You should stay with him since he will keep you safe forever.

5. If a boy leaves you, especially suddenly (while telling you he will never see you again), it is because he loves you so much he will suffer just to keep you safe.

6. When a boy leaves you, going into shock, losing all your friends and enduring night terrors are completely acceptable occurrences — as long as you keep your grades up.

7. It is extremely romantic to put yourself in dangerous situations in order to see your ex-boyfriend again. It’s even more romantic to remember the sound of his voice when he yelled at you.

8. Boys who leave you always come back.

9. Because they come back, you should hold out, waiting for them for months, even when completely acceptable and less-abusive alternative males present themselves.

10. Even though you have no intention of dating an alternative male who expresses interest in you, it is fine to string the young man along for months. Also, you should use him to fix things for you. Maybe he’ll even buy you something.

11. You should use said male to fix things because girls are incapable of anything mechanical or technical.

12. Lying to your parents is fine. Lying to your parents while you run away to save your suicidal boyfriend is an extremely good idea that shows your strength and maturity. Also, it is what you must do.

13. If the boy you are in love with causes you (even indirectly) to be so badly beaten you end up in the hospital, you should tell the doctors and your family that you “fell down the steps” because you are such a silly, clumsy girl. That false explanation always works well for abused women.

14. Men can be changed for the better if you sacrifice everything you are and devote yourself to their need for change.

15. Stalking a woman by breaking into her house to watch her sleep or following her in a car from town to town without her knowledge is romantic and for her own good.

See, that's exactly the point. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a sucker for a good love story, and that Twilight might have appealed to me as a guilty pleasure. But look at all these Unfortunate Implications! You need to think about the values you're espousing because, whether you like it or not, whether you meant to or not, someone is going to embrace them.

(And look at all these adverbs! That was the other thing that turned me off. I got through exactly 1 page of the first book--a page chosen at random, I might add--before they started to make me nauseous.)

If girls learn create their impressions of boys through twilight-- and boys learn about girls through internet porn...

Luckily we are all smarter than that.

oh, wait.

oh, shit we're doomed!

:eek::eek:

grats btw...I bet you have personalized inscripted pens, huh? *chuckles* Come on, fess... ;)

You forgot the most important lesson:

If you're 18 and a boy asks you to marry him, marry him! I mean, why wait? It's not like you're going to change your mind or become a different person in a few years or might find it beneficial to experience life before marriage, right? :confused:

I love 30 second bunny movies :D

And I have seen more of Twilight in parodies than I have of the actual movie (in trailers and commercials).

I love the Twilight books and movies and am happy to have good conversations with my nieces since they are smarter than me and pick Jacob who is truly a better guy. I love the ideas of dating Edward but would never wish that on my loved ones. Heehee. I think it's a fun fantasy cause I wouldn't want it in real life. I just want to dream about it, ok? :)

Sady Doyle thinks that the shrieking teenage girls who love Twilight should be taken seriously because they spend money and because other people are appalled by them. Oh gawdhelpus!:mad:

I think you need to read the article again, Bear. Sady Doyle is talking about the way we judge girls for their juvenile preferences, and do not judge boys accordingly;

..But male escapist fantasies -- which, as anyone who has seen Die Hard or read those Tom Clancy novels can confirm, are not unilaterally sophisticated, complex, or forward-thinking -- tend to be greeted with shrugs, not sneers. The Twilight backlash is vehement, and it is just as much about the fans as it is about the books. Specifically, it's about the fact that those fans are young women..

...Self-described geeks and horror fans are especially upset at how the series introduces the conventions of the romance novel -- that most stereotypically feminine, most scorned of literary forms -- into their far more highbrow and culturally relevant monster stories... What sets Twilight apart from Marvel comics? The answer is fairly obvious, and it's not -- as geeks and feminists might hope -- the quality of the books or movies. It's the number of boys in the fan base.

...

... The vitriol aimed at the series is often about policing gender and punishing girliness -- and boys who dare to enjoy something so blatantly non-masculine would almost certainly find themselves harshly judged...

..The third film adaptation of the Twilight series, Eclipse, will be helmed by horror director David Slade, who has made such movies as Hard Candy and Thirty Days of Night... it is already being touted as "darker," more action-packed, and more "guy friendly." Because the popularity of the Twilight formula guarantees Eclipse will be a box-office smash, the decision to consciously appeal to boys seems more like a grab at credibility than at profit. Romance-loving Twi-Hards be damned! Who cares about disappointing a huge, passionate, lucrative fan base if they're all a bunch of girls?

Fuck it, I could C&P the entire article. it's pretty damn concise.

One more quote;
But is it really necessary to describe them all by the pitch of their voices? It propagates the stereotype of teen girls as hysterical, empty-headed, and ridiculous.

Boys don't "squeal" because their voices have dropped; they "shout" instead. Therefore boys are not hysterical, empty-headed or ridiculous.

No, boys scream. Shouting is a different thing, altogether. And I in no way intended to imply that the others she depicts, convention geeks, etc. were somehow superior. However, I have plenty of contact with Twilight fans and I'm sorry to say, the legions I meet don't have anything to say worth listening to. I hope that will come later.

The legions of readers/fans I meet are 30 year old women! :eek::eek::eek:

Twilight fans, is that what we're still discussing?

I assume in the third one, a young surgical intern with a penchant for cadaver resurrection will throw his hat into the ring.
