Less vampires please...

I wrote one vampire story for the Halloween contest a couple of years ago. There was a bit of sparkle involved, but not in the way one might think.

I like vampires when their intricacies are explored with skill.

I don't like vampires when the character is a blatant excuse to write an arsehole without realising that he still requires redemption e.g. Drake just murdered three girls, but he's a vampire. So he's not a murderer, he's badass.

Or Cain likes very rough sex that makes his gf bleed. Not because he has issues, but because he's a vampire.

It's an annoying method of glossing over slightly worrying implications about the heroine's self esteem/dormant desires.

What on earth gave you that Idea?

Was it my sophisticated charms?
My devilish good looks?
Did you assume that I drink legally? (alas, only in Quebec)
Were you projecting?

Hehe!

Heh, I think I'm probably projecting, and now I have a theory as to why. But it's a secret.

P.S. Sorry 'bout the gratuitous vampires driving you to drink.

I vant

to suck

your...

Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahd!

Then we'll talk.

"I dun't dlink ... vine." Muhahahaha! What a great line. Bela was so cool in that part.:D

woohoo!

Old Dracula reference!!!

Now he was badass, none of this invincible sparkly crap we have to wade through today.

Reading the Twilight Books did irreparable damage to my IQ... I don't recommend anyone read them.

I thought vampires were overdone BEFORE twilight. I blame Anne Rice.

I still appreciate True Blood, thanks to the high production values you expect from HBO. But 99% of the time, I steer clear of any fiction, film, or TV show about vampires.

But obviously there are plenty of people who do not agree with us. <shrug>

Yes, I do love True Blood as well. but have to agree that I am getting a tad bored with the whole 'sucking my blood' thingy. I get that it's sexy, vampires are sexy, but still. Twilight was one thing and I do have a warm spot for that series, one can only go so far in appreciating something or a category for so long.

I'm sure there's some very good vampire fiction still being written. And to those who haven't lost their taste for it, more power to you. Not for me to say that you shouldn't.

But, yeah, it mostly doesn't work for me anymore. Mostly.

I should also say I really liked Let the Right One In. (The American remake wasn't bad, but wow, Americans must really be afraid of subtitles for that to have been necessary/successful. They hardly even changed anything!)

I just saw 'Let me in' and loved every single second of it. I could NOT believe any part of it, and I have a degree in cinema. It was beautiful, erotic, jawdropping...and AMERICAN. Sweet jesus, I fell in love, but want to see the original version because it's bound to be stacks better.

Let Me In was excellent. I also liked the original Swedish version; Let The Right One In.

Beautiful story and not your typical vampy flick in the least.

I don't know about stacks. But yeah, better. :)

I havent seen the american version yet but it sounds like I dont need to bother.

I found that watching Near Dark got the bad taste from watching Twilight out of my mouth. Lance Henricksen makes a kick ass vampire.

Near Dark is a cult classic done long before Twilight and it's rip offs, also beforer Rice's pussy Vampires were really haunting the mainstream

If you showed Near Dark to the tweens they would be traumatized.

Loved the scene where Tim Thomerson shot Lance Henricksen's vampire and Lance spit up the bullet to hand it back.

Henricksen himself could make any movie. I loved him in Pumpkinhead and enjoyed his series Millennium.

I also loved Horror Show because in addition to Lance it starred Brion James one of the all time cult horror actors.

I havta say, the Finnish version was the best... maybe its the dark-haired vampire girl... but that was what I considered romantic... none of this Twilight crap. (I can't say much about Anne Rice because I've never seen a single book of hers.)

Ha ha! I'm a sucker for a good pun! And yes the in laws can do it every time.

Mine are old school proper Italian Catholics. Needless to say my pagan ass says very little while they are around.

So do you know the difference between in laws and outlaws?

Out laws are wanted!

Sorry couldn't resist.

I love you posts
