Left 4 Dead (Closed)

When everyone assembled on the bridge I answered Zoey with, "Good news and bad. Bad news is; no radio contact has been made with anyone on the shore or on the boats." There was murmuring in the back. "Good news is the dock to the station is still intact and there appear to be no visible signs of infected in the immediate area. The sun is approaching, so we have to make this quick."

Summoning everyone to the map pinned to the wall we had drawn our a rough map of the dock and surrounding facilities. "Two teams; Zoey's team and my team will go in via fast boat and sweep the area and secure it and ensure that the perimeter fence is intact and locked. We will search the buildings. When it is secure we will bring in the Pigeon and begin loading. Everyone else will be bringing onboard any and all supplies. There are a few forklifts that we have seen. We need fuel, ammo, medical supplies, food, and spare parts above all. Now, if we by chance encounter someone we will disarm them and bring them to the dock for testing for the infection and any other contagions before they come onboard. We will treat anyone with respect and dignity" warning them all. Everyone was itchy for a fight, willing to pop the first thing that moved.

I grabbed hold of the sniper rifle, "Ellis, how do you feel about being point with me on taking out any that might be near shore?"
"Well, I know my way around a hunter's rifle if that helps out any. A few years back, I went to the deer lease with my cousin Jimmy and took out an 11 point buck with one shot from 400 yards away," Ellis said, taking up a hunting rifle with a good scope.
I chuckled hearing his story, "That's all well and good. Maybe today we can count headshots and whoever loses in count, get's kitchen duty for tonight only."
"Deal, miss!"

Nick and Bill were standing next to each other when Francis and Louis walked up to them.
"We don't need you two quarreling with one another this time. No losses today, got it?" Francis said looking straight at Nick.
"Yeah, we don't need to lose anyone at all," Louis said handing Bill a spare lighter.

Nick looked over Francis' shoulder at Bill, "Yeah sure.."
Bill just huffed on a new cigarette, "Well, hell. Let's just get this over with."

They were getting themselves squared away I was organizing my team. We would be riding in a separate boat, but we weren't doing a race or a contest. We all knew a lot was riding on us to land and clear out the area. our team was quiet, carefully looking over our weapons, checking the sights and the ammunition. A final scan of the horizon showed that there were no infected to be seen. "Good" I nodded going up to Zoey and patting her shoulder, "I'll see you when we get back".

"Oh why don't you two kiss and fuck already!" Francis whined as he saw us. The boats were lowered in the calm water then we climbed down after them. The engine of the Pigeon was still silent, waiting for the order to come in to the dock. Everyone onboard was armed with a rifle and a blade should we be swarmed by the infected. I kept sweeping the area with my eyes, the horizon was a glow in a dull red and bright yellow as the flames consumed the once lovely beach front properties.

I hopped in the boat with my team and looked through the sight of my gun to get a better view of the horizon. Nothing but flames still lined the beach front property. It was so saddening. "I remember coming to Miami with my Uncle for a gun convention," I said checking the ammo amount in the gun. "And now it's all burned up."

Francis heard me and put his hand on my shoulder, "Don't worry, Zoey.. We'll find plenty more guns then we can be the salesmen."
I smiled and looked back at him, "Let's just focus on the mission, then we'll have a party in the Keys when we get there."
Louis laughed, "Then we had better find a Party City, huh?"

We got to shore and looked around. Ellis and I were on point and looked around. "Anything El?"
"No, nothing right now. They're far enough off we won't tag 'em," he responded to me.

"The barracks of the outpost are 3 miles down," Bill stated. "We should be able to get there and back in a few hours."
"Alright ladies! Let's get a move on," Francis announced.

"Where did everyone go?" Rochelle asked the helmsman.
"Oh miss, they've gone ashore to find supplies on our last stop before the Keys," he answered.
Her eyes went wide, "Why would they do that?! They're going to get killed."
"Well, you don't know how efficient they can be. They'll be back soon enough."

When we landed and pulled the boat ashore I gave Zoey and her team a final wave and went out with my team to secure our section. We both had radios with the Pigeon, the rest of the crew were up on deck. Rochelle took up a rifle and waited with everyone else for the all clear and go on the dock. It was a long waiting game.

The air was cold at first from the water, but as we proceeded further in land our faces and arms began to warm from the fires. It was hard to see any distinct landmarks now with everything burned up. So sad. It used to be a beautiful places. Going along the perimeter fence it was still intact.

"Robert to Zoey" I whispered into the radio, "We're heading to the north gate. No sign of infected yet"

I could feel my heart climbing into my throat the further we went. The buildings around us, though small, were silent and cold. It didn't appear that they had been occupied for some time. One of my eyes climbed onto a box and peeked through a window into what appeared to be an office and found everything still sitting there undisturbed. Climbing down he shrugged his shoulders. Going a bit further we made it to another small building and looked inside. It appeared to be another series of offices, but something was nagging at the back of my mind. Looking at it, it was a two story tall red brick building with narrow, horizontal windows. Nothing appeared to be damaged.

I took my team with me to the western side of the beach and we started to raid some houses. Francis and Bill were staying close behind me and Ellis, while Nick and Louis brought up the rear. We were a close 6 man squad and could handle anything that was brought upon us.

I came up to this one house and looked up, "Francis, give me a boost," I said wanting to look in the window, rather than breaking down the door.
He obliged and helped me up to the window sill. "Damn, there's guns in here. They might still have ammo in them."
Nick walked up to the door and pulled out his switchblade to start picking at the lock. Bill walked up behind him and turned the knob to which Nick just huffed, having been shown up by the old man.

We walked inside and looked around, checking upstairs. For a beachfront property, it was pretty large. I signaled the other guys and turned around to look in the cabinets for supplies. There was a photo on the wall of a kid and I gasped. "A family lived here?"
"Nah," Louis stated. "Probably just grandparents who loved their grandchild."
We continued looking around and found some medicine to take back to the ship. "Just gather what you can and put it in your packs. We'll sort through it later," I said continuing out the door.

Robert came over the radio saying no infected, "Yeah no infected here either. Just guns galore in houses," Bill said replying over the radio after I handed it to him.

We searched the offices one at a time. Each room was carefully entered and searched. We had this nagging feeling that there was someone here. Couldn't explain it, but everyone on my team did, that there was someone watching, but there was nothing worth our effort here, just paperwork and the like. Damn. Everything was in place with a bit of dust over it all. No one had traced through here since the beginning. Leaving them we continued along the perimeter fence. It was still intact. Good. Pausing for a moment we spied some infected on a outcropping some hundred yards away. Hiding ourselves behind a pile of boxes I looked through a scope and counted; six of them. They were just mopping about with their heads hung low.

They appeared to be too far away for us to be worth a shot. We didn't have a suppressor for our rifle. A single shot would give us away. "Continue on" I encouraged. Hope Zoey's team was finding more luck than we were.

We came upon a gate with a guard house and carefully approached it. It was empty. Power was out for the station and the strong arm's gears were jammed shut. That was good. No vehicle could get in with this down and the concrete dividers blocking the path. We breathed a bit easier seeing these in place.

"The north gate is secure. Sighted infected, but no threat. Continuing on" I said in my radio.

We continued along the shore only to find nothing more than just medicines and weapons left by people that had fallen to the infected. I turned around and looked towards the base when we got the word in from Robert. "Maybe we should go down to the post and see if we can help," I said to the guys.

"Nah, we should see what's in this Walmart first. Could be some stuff left over," Francis said moving past me and Ellis.

"Mister, you shouldn't go ahead of us like that. We should stay in a group, y'know," Ellis said, trying to reason with the biker who towered over him.

"Listen here, country boy. I can do what I want when I want," he said in response. I took hold of his arm and gave him a stern look. "Ugh fine! I'll take my position back." I smiled when he stood back behind us. I took up the rifle and looked through the scope. I only saw a few infected over inside. "They're avoidable but if we get too close to them, just use your bladed weapons to handle the situation."

Bill nodded and continued walking. He picked up the radio, "Captain, we found a Wally-world and gonna check it out. Might be some decent supplies. We'll radio in what we find. Over and out."

We got inside and found numerous shelves knocked over, blood everywhere. We checked out the sports department first and found a few guns and machetes untouched in the siege. That was a good haul. "Let's check the grocery section and the pharmacy. We can raid those two for what's left, but only get what we need," I said talking the plan over with them. "Ellis and Nick, you guys go check out the pharmacy. Remember, Penicillin and pain medicines are a must."

"Yes ma'am," Ellis said as Nick just nodded.

"Bill and Francis, check out the clothing section for some men's and women's underwear, as well as plain t-shirts. We're going to need to get them when we get to the Keys," I said turning towards the food section. "Louis, you and I are going to get what we can carry. We're going to make it all fit in one of the baskets that way when we head back to the ship, we have five of us on shooting duty and one to push the cart."

"Okay!" Louis smiled, "Let's do this!" he was cheery again. His bright disposition rubbed off on the others but it annoyed Francis.

At the same time we were securing the rest of the compound. Having recieved Zoey's call we were going to be separated for a little bit longer. The Pigeon was still waiting off shore for our all clear, but that wasn't going to come until Zoey's group got back to us. We continued our search building by building room by room. Each search was tense with the thick, still air hovering about us. It was cold in these buildings, and there was no sign of anyone. We were expecting at any moment to turn a corner and come face to face with a horde or worse yet, a Tank!

We found boxes of machine tools and oil for lubrication. Fine stuff. There were unopened boxes in the mail room, all addressed to different sailors and tons of unopened letters. We looked at them; care packages from home, bills, love letters, all of them will never get to where they were intended. Some of us wanted to take the packages, might be food in them, but I decided not to.

"Why not, captain?" one of them asked.

"We're here for what we need" I replied.

"It's not like the Postal Service is going to come back any time soon" sailor Bryan pointed out. He was right, but I still didn't feel right stealing someone else's mail over what 'might' be in it. "Leave it for now" I said, "We'll get what we need and if there's room we'll come back for the packages."

"What's taking so long?" Rochelle asked as she looked at the glowing shore.

"They're on food" the helmsman replied, "It takes time. Zoey's team is heading to a Wal Mart and the captain's team just cleared out the north gate."

"Yeah, well, they should pick it up. I'm scared that we're going to get surrounded. Hordes pop up frequently and from nowhere."

Louis and I made our way to the food section. Most of the stuff had been looted to begin with and there wasn't much left. Luckily there was some canned stuff as well as some dried pasta. "Looks like it won't be much of a haul but we'll definitely bring back a good bit," I said turning to Louis. I gasped seeing what was behind him, "Louis, don't freak out."
He stood still and wondered what it was, "What the hell is it?" He turned slightly and saw that there were about 8 zombies behind him. "Oh shit.." he said.
"Just dump the stuff in this basket and I'll help you take them out quietly."
He nodded and I pulled out my machete. I quickly moved behind each one and chopped them down. Louis finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's finish up and rendezvous with the others."

"Quit looking through stuff for your new girlfriend and let's get what she said to get," Bill said huffing looking through the aisles for different things.
Francis grumbled and grabbed up a thong . He knew that she may not wear it, but worth a shot.

"Let's hurry up and get the hell out of here. I don't like how quiet it is," Nick said to Ellis.
"Yeah, I know what you mean. We should have run into some of them by now," the country guy said.
They grabbed what they needed and met up with the rest of us.

"Looks like a good haul," I said dumping what was left into the one cart.
"Yeah, but it's definitely not much," Francis said putting the thong into his back pocket.
Just as we were heading outside the store, we heard a loud roar coming up the freeway. "Oh no, horde!" I screamed putting Louis on the basket duty as I pulled up my rifle to start firing.

"You hear that?" I said to the others. They paused and held their breath. There was a faint roar, at first we thought it was just the fires, but it steadily grew louder. It was then we realized it was an angry horde, but we couldn't see it. "Inside this building!" I commanded. The door was opened, we all hustled inside and shut it and headed for the top of some stairs, posted two guys to watch it as we went for the windows to find the source. It was hard to see with the glowing light of the fires. Looking south I tried to see if Zoey and her team were heading back. "Zoey" I said keying the radio, "We heard a noise. Sounds like a horde, but we can't see them. We're hold up inside a two story structure by the north gate."

About that time there was a ruckus and a sailor pointed towards where the South gate would be. "There! Look!" handing me a pair of binoculars. There were dozens of infected all clambering over the fence. We had a clear line of sight on them. "If you have a shot, take them out!" I commanded, "Try and draw them away from Zoey's team". The rifles cracked as the windows were thrown open. Each shot echoed through the base. It would attract more, yes, but we had the advantage for right now. "Zoey, by the south gate. There's a horde. We're putting fire on them to draw them towards us and give you a chance to get back to the Pigeon" I replied to my radio.

I saw that the whole horde was changing direction towards the guys. I took the radio from Bill and shouted back into it, "As soon as we're back to the Pigeon, we're coming your way!" I couldn't believe the mass amount of undead that were just now swarming the city.

"We won't be able to make it to them," Louis said shouting as he pushed the cart.
"I don't care! We have to try to get them!" I shouted back. It was then that I saw a Boomer. "Fuck! Don't let it puke on you! Who has a shot?!"
"I've got it!" Ellis said shouting taking aim on the huge 'stench'. He took the shot and the boomer exploded all over the place. We ran by the corpse it left behind and continued on our way. I could tell that it would be a hard time getting over to Robert but hopefully they would hold out until we could make our way over there.

We made it back to the Pigeon and threw the stuff onboard, "We'll be back, be ready to push off!"
I turned back and saw a spitter with a jockey running towards the horde.
"Come on ladies! Let's make a move!" Francis screamed out.

"Open fire!" I commanded and everyone at the windows let it rip. "Watch for the tongues. Don't stand in front of the windows" warning about those damn ones with their long tongues that act as lassos then came a high pitched screeching noise. We looked for the source, but couldn't find it. The horde came running towards the building's doors and slammed their bodies into them, easily ripping the doors off their hinges and through the windows. The infected cared nothing for their bodies, their bodies were torn up by the jagged pieces of glass but all they could think was to get at us. At the base of the stairs the two posted there saw the figures swing up the steps and they opened up and called out the warning.

"Zoey!" I called into the radio, "They're inside the building. There are too many for us to handle. Try to take out any of those special fuckers. We'll go out through one of the windows. Then we'll burn this shit to the ground!"

Looking about I began looking for any flammable liquid; oil, gasoline, kerosene, anything, but this was an office and there wasn't anything like that here. Getting back on the radio I called to Zoey, "Try to make Molotov cocktails and get ready to scorch this place."

Turning to the sailors I went to a window overlooking the back way and saw no infected. Using a chair I smashed it open and said, "Let's build a ladder." At the same time those at the stairs were slaughtering the infected as they came up, bursts of fire ripped their bodies apart, spraying the walls with blood and making the stairs slick, but more infected pushed and stepped over their riddled bodies. Such determination.

"Get some blankets or towels and build a ladder!" I called out taking up my rifle and sending a few shots down the stairs. There were more and more coming. We couldn't hold for much longer.

I heard the commotion come back over the radio. Damn! We wouldn't make it in time to get them out the normal way. "Aye! We'll be right there! Bill we're going to need to borrow your cigarette," I said stuffing ripped cloth into bottles of alcohol.
"Not a problem!" he said lighting up a fresh one and then lighting up a few Molotovs himself. We all bum-rushed the building, throwing a few of the bottles at the base working our way in. We managed to kill several of them with Ellis and Nick lobbing the heads off with their bladed weapons as to not draw attention to us.

"Damn it! Too many of these stenches around!" Francis said shooting into the horde.
"Listen! Witch!" Louis screamed off seeing one of the deadliest undead walking the street, completely oblivious to it's surroundings. I covered his mouth and shook my head, "She can be avoided. Hush!"
He nodded and kept firing in the direction of the horde. Soon we heard a coughing noise and a screech, "Fuck! A smoker!" Ellis said shouting off. I turned and took aim at the thing just as the tongue reached down around me, "Oh fuck no!" I said pulling the trigger. The tongue dropped me as it burst into smoke.
"Nice shootin', miss," Ellis said before turning back to the action.

We were making progress, I looked around and saw how high up the windows were. I shouted back into the radio, "There's a dumpster around left corner with a window above it! Aim for that dumpster! We'll clear you a path!" I turned back around and headed towards the dumpster with Nick in tow. "We've got to keep these bastards away from here!"
Nick nodded and lit up a few more Molotovs. "They better hurry up! I have a bad feeling we're about to see a Tank."
"Don't say that and we won't!" I said shooting the head off a Spitter before she could aim her acidic goo at us.

Louis and the other three were lighting up the rest of the building. This was entirely more than a normal zombie horde!

"I'm running low!" my sailors were crying, their barrels red hot from firing, the carpet littered with spent shell casings. We couldn't remain here any longer. Using Zoey's advice I peeked out and saw the dumpster. Fortunately it appeared to be filled with large plastic bags, that would cushin our fall. Several lengths of electrical cord were cut, tied together and anchored around a heavy cabinet and thrown out towards the dumpster. Just enough to make it. I went to the closest men, who were nearly out of ammo, "Get going. We'll form up on the ground and work our way to Zoey's team!" I had to shout to be heard with all of the firing.

One by one they went using the cord and going down to the dumpster. The cabinet moved with all the weight but the cord held strong. It seemed to take forever, but when the first two landed in the dumpster I pulled another two out. Those left were at the stairs, spraying it as the fires began to slowly spread inside. The heat was rising as the acid smoke began to sting our eyes and soon became unbearable. "Get to the window!" I commanded them seeing the bright flames beginning to spread through the ground floor. Zoey had done her job, a bit too well, now her fire was forcing us out ahead of the infected. The last of my sailors went with me being last to ensure that no one was left behind. By the time it was my turn there were several flaming figures rushing into the room. I descended hand under hand as my men waited for me below them a figure leaped out of the room trailing a bright flame consuming her from head to toe and impacted on the asphalt with a properties of a water balloon.

Landing in the dumpster I climbed out and grabbed the radio, "*cough* we all made it out. We're going around the back way to link up with you. Any special infected out there?"

I picked up the radio again, "No! No special infected on our end. Let's just meet up and get back to the Pigeon." I turned around towards the guys, "It's time to book it!" I kept shooting my weapon at the infected and we made our way back up to the front of the building. We met up with the other sailors.
"Looks like they're out of ammo. Let's get you guys in the middle and we'll cover you!" Francis said moving around and shooting off some more of the undead.
I kept a look out until I heard the all too familiar roar. "Oh no.."
"Don't think! Just run!" Bill said, throwing his cigarette away to focus more on the shooting. We were almost back to the ship but it seemed too far away. A Tank was coming up the pathway and barreling down on us at a fast pace.
"Just hurry the fuck up and get here!" Rochelle screamed over the radio, seeing the terror chasing us from the ship.

That's all we were doing now; RUNNING! We were nearly out of ammo and the handful we had left would do nothing to the huge creature now hurtling towards us, smashing up everything in its path.

"All reverse, quarter!" the helmsman replied, the screw began to spin slowly and the Pigeon started to slide backwards. Everything that couldn't be moved was left. All that we cared right now was to get onboard. I was near the rear, looking over my shoulder with Bill barking, "Don't look back. Just run!"

In front of me was Zoey, her bright red jacket standing out. She was still alive and running. That's all I care about.

Going to the bow of the ship Rochelle aimed at the tank and sent several round its way, "Smile, you son of a bitch!" and shot a propane tank that was in its path. It erupted in a conflagration of flame and the Tank staggered backwards, stalled in its charge. That was our chance. "Get aboard!" as we all leaped off the dock and onto the steel deck.

We heard the explosion from behind and the heat from it as we made our running trek onto the ship. We couldn't help but trip a few times but we all helped each other along the way. I jumped on the ship first and grabbed a spare gun from the deck and started shooting in the direction of the Tank. "Just die already, fucker!" I said screaming, squeezing the trigger tight, sending bullets into the monstrosity.

Francis jumped onto the ship and turned around, "Get us the fuck out of here, ladies!" Rochelle stood back and ran back into the main hull of the ship and came back out with a bomb. She threw it at the oncoming horde and the tank and it exploded, stopping it all in their tracks.

Ellis and Nick kept firing, turning back. "I'm out! Just get us out of here!" Nick said, shouting.

The sailors ahead of me jumped on deck I was the last to board jumping over the rails and sprawling on to the steel deck. Looking back as the ship it out the dock there was a crescendo of flames as the tank continue to stagger forward being read over my bullets from everyone who could will hold a rifle. Its still didn't seem to stop! No matter how much we threw at it, it continued to come for us until they reach the dock and finally, with flames licking up its back, it staggered, fell, and stayed there. "And Fuck you too!" Ellis shouted, flipping the tank off as we slid out into the dark waters.

I stood up clearing my rifle "everyone here? " I asked "I need a head count. I need to know if everyone is here". Looking up at the bridge the helmsman put the engine into full reverse to get us out of the hot zone as quickly as possible. The deck was cluttered with what equipment supplies that could be found close at hand. I shook my head into staying another close run. We didn't get as much as I hoped there was Louis and a shopping cart and there were a few boxes of other supplies but I hoped they would be more, much more. After getting a head count and realizing that everyone had made it I said "okay. let's get the stuff below decks and continued on our way we're going all the way to the keys and we're not stopping again."

"Aye aye, Captain," everyone said agreeing to Robert. This has truly been a rough stop, but no one had died. It was exhilarating and at the same time, it had truly scared me shit-less. Everyone had made it back and now the time came to start sorting through everything that we had found. "Louis, help me dump the cart onto the floor," I said, grabbing one side of the shopping cart.

We dumped what we had found on the floor and started going through it. Ellis bent down and started looking through the shirts, "Well, damn. Seems like we got plenty of clothes here. This is more clothes than I had when I went to college for that year. I remember my roommate was so annoyed by me always asking for stuff to borrow. I told him 'Well man, I sure cannot afford half of this stuff and need it or I will start to stink.' He transferred rooms soon after."

"I can imagine there was another reason why he was annoyed," Nick said under his breath, before being given a high-five by Francis.

"Wait you went to college?" Rochelle said coming around the corner.

"Well, yeah. Just for a year, to get my mechanics degree," Ellis responded.

"I can't believe they let som---oomph!" Francis started talking before being punched in the arm by Rochelle to shut up. "Ow...That sorta hurt," he continued before putting his arm around her. He led her down the hallway and pulled out the thong from his back pocket. "I um...thought this might fit.." He was acting all nervous now, which he never was.
"Well, um...thanks Francis," Rochelle said, her face feeling hot from the nervousness filling her.
"Maybe later, um..." Francis continued before being interrupted by her kissing him.

I shook my head smiling looking at the two of them. "Let's get all these clothes into the washroom for everyone to pick through. The medicine found can go in the galley for now."

"Alrighty, miss" Ellis smiled as he scooped up the packages and followed Zoey down below. I stayed on deck and went through the other crates that were brought in at the same time our sailor Teddy approached saying, "We were able to top off the fuel bunkers. It's the first thing we did when we entered the dock. If we maintain a speed of 11.5 knots we can cruise 13,800 nautical miles." That 15,880 regular miles. More than enough to cruise the length of the Atlantic. Hopefully it wouldn't come to that. It was still reassuring to know that we had a full tank of gas to get us out of the hot zone.

As for the other supplies, there were machine parts, hand tools, power tools, a few cans of ammunition, hoses, and welding equipment. Certainly wasn't the haul I was hoping for, but as long as we made it out of there alive, then that was all that I care about. "Okay. Let's get this stuff sorted. I'm heading up to the bridge. Please tell Zoey I'd like to meet her up there."

"Aye aye," Teddy replied.

With still warm rifle in hand I headed up to the bridge, placed my weapon against the bulkhead and grabbed a map of the Keys and laid it out looking intently at the many small islands that comprised it. There was an elevated highway that connected them, but that could be easily taken care of. The hardest part would be ensuring a safe place to dock and conceal the ship. Naturally if people see the Pigeon they'll come flocking to it asking for help or try to take it.

I finished looking through the stuff we had managed to get from the Walmart on shore and was told by Teddy that I needed to meet up with Robert on the bridge. I walked up to the bridge and saw him leaning over the maps, "When I'm needed, you're always leaning over maps or taking stock of something.." I leaned against the table and crossed my arms, smiling. "What is it you need, oh captain my captain?" I put my hand on his back as I moved closer to him looking at the map.

Smiling at her I gave a playful nudge of the shoulder before placing the tip of my index finger on the face of the map and followed the highway that pointed the way to our destination; a large fort. "This is where we're going. This fort here. Fort Jefferson. Based on our course, speed, and currents we should be making it there before nightfall. Our radios have been picking up nothing but static. We can hope that when we reach the fort that it will be abandoned. The only way to get to it is either by a boat or by seaplane..." the more I thought about it the more my thoughts were drifting to finding it a paradise, a place that no zombies can reach us.

After pausing for a moment I flicked my eyes over at Zoey and I asked, "How are you doing? That was a close run thing there back at the dock. I thought I was going to lose some more people back there. Damn things were swarming us" putting down the grease pencil on the map.

Down below Rochelle, Nick, and Ellis were sorting through the supplies and putting them into the cupboard. Having pocketed the thong that Francis had bravely stolen for her Rochelle was a bit chipper now, so much so that Ellis noticed this, but then his thoughts went to the Tank that Rochelle had shot. "That was an incredible shot with that propane tank. That reminds me, this one time me and my buddy Keith down to the mud river to go hunt some frogs and we took this old propane tank that he filled up and tied a flare to and lit it up, threw it into the river and we shot it with a Ruger 14 and it went off like a Roman candle" now the mechanic was grinning ear to ear.

"How does that help hunt frogs?" Nick asked.

"Frogs?" Ellis replied, "Shit. After that we forgot about the frogs and we went looking for more propane tanks."

"Shit, I never thought that I'd have to fight the dead, but propane tanks sure do help when it comes to stopping a bunch of them," Rochelle said, looking towards Francis, popping a smile in his direction.

"Well, I know one thing, it was some pretty quick thinking," Bill said walking into the area where they all were.

"Well, do you think there might be some people there but they just don't have a radio?" I looked over the map and saw the highway overpasses that he had marked down. "I believe we can run the highway and kill any spares silently, just so when we get to the fort we won't be attracting them as bad." I pointed at one island, "Of course we'd have to circle to the northern side of the key strip just so we'd have a chance at docking. The docks are on the northern side and with the overpasses connecting the islands, we couldn't bring the ship under one of them as a shortcut."

Meanwhile along the Texas coast...

"Aw shit, more of these fuckers," the large breasted Coast Guard soldier said taking aim with her sniper rifle, popping off the heads of numerous zombies. Katelyn Hendricks is her name and after the end of the world happened, she was left alone at the Coast Guard Station in Galveston Texas. The A&P was still well stocked since it had become under heavy guard after the dead started attacking the living. She would often take her time shopping and killing the dead.

"Oh well, you look like you were left behind huh, buddy? Last horde didn't wait for ya, eh?" she said using a samurai sword to lob the skull off the grocery bagger. She watched the sunset over the West End of the island before heading back to the station. She wondered maybe one day someone would come along but seeing the last bit of light disappear from the sky over the Bolivar Peninsula near the CGS, she couldn't help but feel like the last woman on Earth at this point.

(OOC: The newest person added to this roleplay will make an entrance to the story-line after a few more pages and we get the characters to the docks in the Keys. You'll see, just stick around and enjoy the read.)

The highway didn't go all the way, but Zoey was right about having to swing the long way around. "The highway is elevated, there are plenty of landing areas on the islands to land parties, but I don't want to land and send people that far away from the ship. If they get into another shit storm then they'll have to haul ass all the way back. Too risky" going further down '7 Mile Bridge' to the last key that the bridge connected to, "Little Duck Key". "We can land a party here and thin out the area. Then swing the Pigeon around Fort Jefferson and put in the dock on the north end and begin our search."

I continued with, "I hope that there is a party in the fort or nearby and they just don't have a radio. But at the same time I hope that they're not hostile or desperate. Those two just don't mix. If...if they inhabit the fort then we'll back off and head to somewhere else." But that got me into thinking, where could we go? Cuba was heavily populated and probably swarming with the undead. Couldn't land in Florida at all after seeing Miami. Right now we had a full tank of fuel, plenty of supplies, but right now Fort Jefferson seemed to be the only place for us. Many of the crew wanted off the ship, to stretch their legs and relax. "When we reach Little Duck Key, do you want to go with the party and clear out any of the undead? After all, you seem to be the best zombie killer of all of us" winking and nudging her again with my shoulder.
