Doubt this thread would probably get any responses, but here we go:

"Oregon Senator Ron Wyden and colleagues push for permanent daylight savings.

Wyden, Colleagues Reintroduce Permanent Daylight Saving Time Legislation
Wyden: “Making Daylight Saving permanent would give folks an hour back of sunshine during the winter months when we need it most”

Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, reintroduced legislation that would make Daylight Saving Time (DST) permanent across the country.
“The Sunshine Protection Act takes a common-sense step to provide some much-needed stability for families in Oregon and across the nation,” Wyden said. “Springing forward and falling back year after year only creates unnecessary confusion while harming Americans’ health and our economy. Making Daylight Saving permanent would give folks an hour back of sunshine during the winter months when we need it most.”
The bipartisan legislation, if enacted, would apply to states that currently participate in DST, which Oregon and most states observe for eight months out of the year."

Hope this gains traction, such a stupid and outdated practice that needs to end.

daylight is one word.

and until you fuckers can get behind a thirteen month calendar you can all fuck right off.

I'll strongly disagree with this.

Good to know there are congress critters out there tackling the hard problems our nation faces.

I really don't think permanent daylight savings time is workable in many parts of the country. If you're both far enough north and on the western end of your time zone, the sun would rise after 9 AM in early winter. Does Wyden think the average person is still in bed at that hour?

You always see this talk on "spring forward" day. It's a one-day inconvenience, no big deal.

I say we don’t need to switch to DST

That would put us at odds with our neighbors.
Central Time here, to them, would appear to be Eastern Time to everyone else.

We make fun of North Korea for eschewing established time zones.
North Korea is known for doing things not conducive to business.

Eliminate it, don't stay on it.

But it is addressing a problem that only existed in an agrarian nation.

It's not the 40s anymore. Farm equipment has GPS and lights now.

We really don't need it, it is an anachronism...

It might be no big deal, but
it serves no purpose.

But then we’d never know when to change our smoke detector batteries.

welp, the senate's passed the bill to make DST permanent... now it has to go to the house and, if it passes there, to President Biden's desk.

one way or the other, it seems the American people feel inconvenienced by the twice-a-year routine of changing their clocks. guess it'll pass 🙃

Well, for one thing, I'd rather be on permanant "Spring/summer" time then permanant winter time. That would just be frickin' grim. Especially for those in the northern U.S. who would see little benefit other than short summer evenings (no time to excercize or go out after work) and the sun coming up at like 5 AM. I'm in favor of making summer time permanant, but sure as heck not the other way around.

Yeah in the winter the mornings would be darker but, they are dark now. Where I live the sun doesn't come up until around 8:15 from December through mid/late January, anyway. I'd rather have that extra hour of winter daylight, especially when things are at the grimmest in late November/December.

Everyone will mentally/physically adjust after a year. The time that we follow is a social construct and all of our electronic clocks hooked up to The Cloud auto switches anyway. It'll be a blip.

My stove clock has been off kilter since I moved in and I ain't even bothered changing it.

^^ It doesn't change the number of hours of either daylight or darkness.

I don't really mind it, I notice it for all of two or three days. Like I wish the law said it had to happen on a weekend just so when I crash out at night I don't go "oh shit, I'm. . .you know what I know I'm late, either write me up or let me catch up."

The real thing I've been concerned about is what businesses are going to end up adjusting their hours half the year now that there won't a law making them.
