... so what would you do?

Personally, we are both worn out. Too tired to do any more 'seeing' and actually looking forward to going home.

It has been a fantastic trip. So much has happened, we've met wonderful, fantastic people, a few cranks and some out and out bizarre (not least the people we are staying with).

I've more story ideas than I could possibly handle, some so off the wall (real life events) they are too unrealistic for fiction! And I've wonderful pictures, sweetsubsarrah, of a Peragrin Falcon enjoying an early supper in Central Park. I'll post a thread once I'm home.

For the last couple of hours we've watched the sun setting over NYC, the buildings light up and the sky bleed red into black and all around there are planes moving through the dark sky. I found that unnerving at first, now I enjoy the patterns they make in the sky.

I've loved this stay. NYC is fabulous, dirty but fabulous, two faced but fabulous.

It's both smaller and bigger than I imagined. It's richer and poorer than I expected and projects an image totally out of scale with its stature. That is not to say it has less significance, the city and its people have enormous significance, but their value means more to New Yorkers than anyone else - it gives them a voice disparate to their size... and their size is BIG.

Even the bloody Robins in Central Park are as big as Blackbirds - what the hell birds are they???

Ten things that have really impressed me this trip:

1. the people
2. the Frick Gallery, NYC
3. Niagara Falls - including the Temple to the Instant Jesus and Bingo Parlor
4. Niagara on the Lake
5. Lake George
6. Dia Beacon (there is a book in this)
7. Baltimore
8. Fishermans Inn, Kent County, Maryland
9. The view from 85th and Madison
10. Customs House (Native America Museum)

Ten things that have really disappointed me this trip:

1. Guggenheim (it is undergoing refurbishment and almost closed)
2. People who visit Art Galleries
3. Foreigners
4. Food - generally over prepared - simple really is best
5. Sheraton Hotel, Niagara Falls
6. Dia Beacon (there is a book in this)
7. Shop Service - unless the sales person was on commission
8. Dirt - everywhere (even in Victoria's Secret)
9. Bookshops
10. Weather - it has been f***ing cold!

Hey... but thanks ;)

New York defies description. Anything one says of it is true, and also wrong. Amazing place altogether. I agree about the overprepared food, btw.

By all means, take the Staten Island Ferry! The trip gives you an incredible view of the Statue of Liberty [out the starboard windows on the way out and the port windows on the way back.] There is really nothing to see in the St George Terminal area of Staten Island, so just cool it until the trip back.

I should bopokmark my last rant on NYC for my own personal reference. Personally, I can never wait to get back home whenever I go there.

I hope you had more fun than disaster though, and the next time you come back maybe I'll buy you lunch somewhere.

Glad your trip was amazing!

Looking forward to your returning home thread.

It's the last scheduled item on this tour. We were waiting for the weather to warm up, that's not going to happen, so the ferry is planned for this morning, we leave on the 'red-eye' tonight.

I'll look forward to that! The trip has gone well enough to guarantee we will be back regardless of whether one of the NYC literary agents I contacted takes up my offer for them to represent me :D Apart from my SO's current exhibition, we've been planning another show for a couple of years time, that looks as if it is going to happen, which will be the second best excuse for returning.
