yes, but you have to be zapped several times - depending on the area and the amount of hair. After the treatment period is over (lets say after you have had the area zapped 4 separate times) then you are hairless.

I've done extensive research on this, and I sort of wanted to hear real-life experience before I try it myself

I've had my pubic area and armpits done. I had about 6 sessions and probably need 2-3 more to permanently remove the hair but am short of funds at the moment (it's very expensive).
I still have to shave a couple of times a week (pubes) but the hair growth is fine and there's no prickly stubble. The armpits have hardly any hair left and I probably shave there once a fortnight.
If you can tolerate a bit of stinging in your sensitive bits, you will sail through the process. You should be given some soothing lotion to put on afterwards for 2-3 days, there will be some redness and you will be a little sore. DO NOT get it done in the week before or during your period. I found from experience that my pain threshold is lower then

Here, there are some package treatments, so the more you do the cheaper it gets (or so they say!)
Do you think if you wait a while it'll grow back? Be careful, one of my friends once told me that she stopped laser treatments before it was 100% complete (due to funds too) and after continuous shaving, the hair grows back like before. (Obviously it took some time for it to regrow..)
That's why I'm sort of worried to have the hair regrow after I spend a fortune on those laser treatments.

It's been a couple of years and it's no thicker than it was when I stopped the treatments. I doubt it will grow back like it was - I had quite a forest down there!

I had my underarms and bikini line done 10 years ago. Now I have about 10 hairs under my left arm, 2 under my right. My bikini line is great too - but I've recently gone a little further with a 1/2 brazillian. I have a surprising amount of blond hair down there so I'm going to need a few treatments. I'm taking a break from it during summer and waiting for my skin to become pale again (because my skin has darkened slightly with the treatments).
Worth the $$ in the long run - especially if you're used to paying for soemone else to wax you!

Is it worth it to just do one or two sessions to thin out hair (under arms) and then have to shave less frequently? I get razorburn everywhere but my legs, and have tried every single trick I have ever heard of and it still happens, so now I'm looking into lasers!

I started my treatments about a year ago. The place I go to schedules you every 10 weeks to catch the hair in different stages. Here are my thoughts after a year LOL!!
I actually won a amount off my package so I got both the underarms and total brazililan bikini for around $2400. I was paying as I went in but they had several plans available. I actually ended up paying less because I had gotten a second job and halfway through wanted to pay for 2 treatments while I was there so I'd only have one left. They let me pay for all 3 for $1000 instead of the $1200 it would have been. Seemed better to me to save it that way.
I've got very fair skin. They apparently can dial that thing up. I have found that ice packs applied directly prior to the treatment have helped me the most with both the stinging (akin to a rubber band being pulled away far from the skin and let go to snap against it) and any redness or swelling. Also if the gel they use (like k-y) is refrigerated it helps a ton as well. They told me I could get stuff that numbs but I have to wash the area directly prior to make sure all the residue is gone. The numbing stuff is to be applied like 30 minutes prior to the procedure. The day I have the procedure I am supposed to have shaved the areas or they will shave it for me (not happening). I also am not supposed to wear deoderant or apply any lotion etc to any parts to be treated.
I go in on my lunchbreak. Takes about 20 minutes to do both arms and entire bikini area. After a year I'd say 90% of the underarm hair is totally gone now and probably 80% of the bikini area is gone as well. I had very coarse and a ton of hair in my bikini area so that's been awesome to have it reduced so much. I can't wait until it is all gone. This place has a 2 year guarantee to where they will continue treatments for 2 years until all the hair is permanently gone.
So the bottom line is it is expensive. I found it worth it though in the less time and money I spend on not only shaving but getting ready to go swimming etc. I was possibly going to get my legs done as well and they quoted me $1200 for that.

do you mean the benefits outweigh the discomfort? I am looking to have this done on my nether regions and convincing my wife to have her bikini area done.

Yes that is exactly what I mean. I've found that using the ice packs and the really cold gel make it very tolerable and I have an extremely low pain tolerance. I am contemplating getting the numbing cream to put on the very sensitive areas around my hiney and the inner lips which seem to defnitely hurt no matter the ice or cold gel. But that is the only place I'd consider it because it is definitely tolerable in all the other areas.
