Good deal for a Tosh which are usually expensive

Some win XP machines will drop in price now vista's around; there is little in vista if all you want is internet surfing and word processing.

That's a good deal and should give you several years of happy computing.

I don't know that I'd class it a "Low End" but it's a pretty basic "general issue" or "Entry Level" computer and couldn't be considered "High End."

It's a good deal unless you have some specific need for a more expensive, "High End" laptop.

The Celeron CPU is sometimes disparaged as a "low end" alternative to the "genuine" Pentium CPUs, usually by gamers and graphic artists, because it is a general purpose version of the Pentium that isn't "optimized" for Multimedia or Gaming.

It's going to be $250 here, and we're going to grab one for a friend. It's better than the mid-range laptop we bought a year ago, and will suit her well for internet and word processing.

With the money she's saving, we'll max out the RAM, get her a wireless mouse, etc., and it'll still be a great deal.

This is a very good/dependable laptop. If you are looking for something to surf internet, do some small documents, this is it. If looking for a gaming pc, get a high end desktop/tower. If you go with this laptop, I would bump up memory to 1 gb, it has 512 when you get it. By todays standards with XP, 1 Gb runs much better. Good Luck

Thank you for your replies! I picked up this machine for $399 at Staples. The line at Best Buy was too long. Someone at the store mentioned upgrading another 512 in memory. Is that easy to do?

Yes and no. It's within the realm of Do-it-yourself upgrades, but it might void your warrantee to do it yourself. It's a fairly quick job and should be a "while you wait" proposition for a computer shop -- might even be able to find a "free installation while you wait" deal on memory at someplace like CompUSA or Best Buy.

We've always upgraded the RAM ourselves. If you are looking to do it yourself, check out http://www.newegg.com , as we've often found it to have the best deal. Make sure you get the right kind, too.

it won't void your warranty to add ram.... at least it shouldn't, and if it does run away if you can! lol

adding ram is one of the easiest, fastest upgrades you can do to a pc. it literally takes about 2 minutes.

here is a guide:

guide from hp/compaq site

oh and i'd take the turion over the celeron any day of the week, the laptop you picked up at staples sounds very good for the price :)
