New computer

So I'm getting a new computer, as my old one was a piece of crap and went kapooooooooot.

Now I share my excitement!

Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 (4x 2.83GHz/12MB L2 Cache/1333FSB)

MSI P7N SLI-FI Nvidia nForce 750i SLI Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394, Three PCI-E MB

OCZ Gold 8GB (4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)

2x NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT 1GB w/ DVI + TV Out Video (Running SLI mode)

1 TB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache] (leaving second HD spot open for the future)

2 CD/DVD-RWs

onboard 3D surround sound

12-In-1 Internal Flash Media Card Reader/Writer (Awesome for my photo stuff)

Also, probably going to order this monitor: Link

...Yum. :D

Intel? ROFL

I'm an AMD man myself, lately they've been closing the performance gap with Intel, IMO.

It sounds like a pretty sweet rig you're getting, Kitten. I think the next time I upgrade, I'm going to try my hand at building my own system; if you're tech savvy enough, you can get a lot more bang for your buck.

I'll trade you the computer for the monitor. Funnily enough I'm sitting in front of it right now... Its nice, hasnt done anything stupid at all... though the buttons are a pain, and it only rotates up and down on the base

Our long national nightmare is over.;)

Sounds like a fab setup, kitten.

Performance gap? What the hell is that supposed to mean?

AMD had a lock on the dual-core chips, they performed better than their Intel counterparts. AMD is lagging a bit behind Intel in the quad-core market, though. Intel quad-core chips typically out perform equivilant AMD quad-core chips in benchmarks and performance tests. There may be some variance from game to game, but right now Intel's coming out on top pretty consistently.

It's not a big gap, and it doesn't really matter because either one is more than powerful enough to run anything currently on the market. But, as of right now, Intel's got the bragging rights.

Not that I particularly care, I'm still running an AMD quad-core, simply because I like the company better and I'm not going abandon them for a neglible performance increase I won't actually notice. ;)

I wanted to build my own, but I really don't know enough about that sort of thing, and don't have any close friends nearby currently that could help me.

Sorry, just ordered it. :) Thanks for the good review, though.

after months without a comp, tarzan bought me a new one.
so i fixed this one, just to be petty.

It is very nice :)

My old one was like 5-7 years old, and a piece of junk from Dell, so I desperately needed an upgrade.

PS: Love your AV, hon. ;)

I have two of those monitors at work...they are good for what I do with them. However, I think you made a mistake for gaming. The great thing about NewEgg is their return policy. I have a 8800 GTX card in my home computer and I am running at 1920x1200 on a Samsung 244T...Oblivion rocks. If you have 2 GT cards linked in SLI, I would think this is the minimum resolution you would want. The monitors I have at work are only 1600x1200.

Contrary to my setup, I'm actually not that hardcore of a gamer. Some oldish games-- FFXI, Heroes of Might and Magic V, Civ IV. Maybe some games coming out. This setup will be able to handle it.

The big monitor is mostly for my photoshop work-- I don't really want a CRT monitor, it takes up too much room, and this is supposed to have dashing colors if you configure it right.

Curious: Just in terms of a ballpark figure - how much did this whole setup cost?

the setup is fantastic...you will love it. I just wanted you to know that you will not see everything you can see w/ that particular monitor. It is good. I have 2 at work and love them. But once you go big...you will never play anything small again.:D

Does sound good for games.

But im not a gamer and if it don't run OSX, i'm not interested.

I'm currently using the big monitor right now on my craptop. My brain is all... "OMG... it's so BIG." You don't realize how big it is till it's right there.

Better yet, set up two monitors. Great for games.

I was thinking of plugging my old one in as well, once I get the new computer.
