"A shield issue is just, you know, your opponent is going to attack you as lacking compassion," a GOPAC training tape advises. "You better find a good compassion issue where, you know, you show up in the local paper holding a baby in the neonatal center, and all you're trying to do is shield yourself from the inevitable attack."

But the clearest expression of Gingrich's philosophy of media came in a GOPAC memo entitled "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control." Distributed to GOP candidates across the country, the memo's list of words for Democrats and words for Republicans was endorsed by Gingrich in a cover letter: "The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language." Next time you hear Gingrich complain about media focusing on the negative, refer back to these lists.

Apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals and their party.

Print out the list, listen to Rush or Sean Hanity and see how fast you can circle the words as they are said!

Or use a highlighter (I recomend two colors one for 'them' words and one for 'us' words) and go through one of there books:)

IF you don't have that on hand, here's a fun article to get you started!!!!

Let Freedom Ring – Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism By Sean Hannity
Part Three: The Taxman Cometh, And Cometh, and Cometh

"Government spending is at an all-time high. And the tax burden is at a record high, having skyrocketed during the Clinton-Gore years,” Hannity writes.

"The tax code is more complicated, convoluted, and corrupt more than ever. Working families are paying four times more in taxes today than they did in the 1950s. Many are struggling just to make ends meet. They were hit hard by the recession that began in Clinton’s first year and continued into Bush’s first year, which was exacerbated by 9/11, the anthrax attacks and threats, and the fear and confusion they caused. We badly need significant tax cuts to get this economy roaring again, and not just for a few months but for the long haul.”

Yet the Democrats don’t think we’re paying enough, and want to scale back President Bush’s tax cut. Democrats simply don’t think we pay enough taxes.

"You should understand that liberalism begins with the belief that the money you and I produce is the government’s money,” Hannity explains. "The portion not taxed is what the beneficent government, in its abundant graciousness, allows you to keep.”

The tax burden Americans bear is the result of out-of-control government spending – a symptom of the increasing dependence upon government programs that afflicts far too many Americans.

Hannity quotes economist Steve Moore’s study, "The Most Expensive Government in World History” as revealing that "the cost of federal, state and local government in America has exceeded the $3 trillion mark. Not only does the United States spend more than the entire economy of France, but government spends more money in just a single year than it spent combined from 1781 to 1900, even after adjusting for inflation.”

During the days of FDR’s New Deal the government consumed about 5 percent of America’s national income, but today it spends an enormous 20 to 25 percent .

Over the next five years the federal government alone is expected to spend more money than was spent on World Wars I and II, the Civil War and the Revolutionary War – even adjusting for inflation.

Moore explains what this means to the average American:

In 1900 total taxes per household were $1,900 (using constant 2000 dollars);

In 1950 total taxes per household were $11,000.

In 1999, total taxes per household reached $30,000.

Another way of looking at this is reported by the Tax Foundation:

In 1900, Tax Freedom Day – the day when Americans have earned enough money to pay off their total tax bill for the year – was January 20;

In 1950 Tax Freedom Day was March 29;

In 1993, the year Bill Clinton and Al Gore took office, Tax Freedom day was April 20;

In 2000, after eight years of Clinton/Gore Tax Freedom Day was May 1st.

In other words, in 2000, for the first four months of the year, American workers labored full time for the government.

Hannity’s answer to this tax slavery is the enactment of a flat tax. "We should start with something like a generous personal exemption of $15,000 for each adult and $5,000 for each child,” he explains. "This would mean that a family of four would pay no federal income tax on their first $40,000 of income – which would amount to a tax cut of between $1,000 and $2,000 for many Americans.

Hannity suggests that above those exemptions, income should be taxed at a rate of say 15 or 17 percent allowing for deductions only for charitable contributions and home mortgage interest payments. He would also abolish the tax on capital gains which sucks huge amounts of money out of the supply of capital for job-creating investment purposes.

"A flat tax would be simple to use,” he writes. "It would take about five minutes to complete. A flat tax would be fair. Everyone would be treated equally under the law.”

And it works. Just ask the Russians. Since January 2001, the former communist dictatorship has embraced a 13 percent flat tax. "It’s lower than any other country in Europe," Hannity reports. "And it’s working. As Russians pay a far lower rate that they ever have before, they’re working harder, creating more, and experiencing strong economic growth. In 2001 alone, some 400,000 new businesses were created – up 11 percent – and tax revenues soared a whopping 47 percent.”

Hannity has written both a searing indictment of liberalism and provided a road map that if followed, could restore the freedom and integrity of the United States.

Let Freedom Ring:
Winning the War of Liberty over Liberalism

Hardcover – 288 pages

Fans of Fox News Channel's Hannity and Colmes and ABC Radio's Sean Hannity Show know that Sean Hannity pulls no punches! In his blockbuster new book Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism, he comes out swinging, declaring that if the Left prevails in America, the well-being of future generations will be in peril. He proves that liberal ideas have made America more vulnerable and created confusion in our society (and among our children) about what is right and wrong – thus placing our freedom and security at risk.

September 11th, says Hannity, has thrown the errors of liberalism into sharp relief: Americans must decisively reject the Left now, or face nothing less than the final loss of our freedoms. With his trademark forthrightness and courage, he shows here why liberalism is bankrupt on a huge variety of issues: terrorism and national security, border security, the economy, taxes, liberal media bias, environmentalism, education, faith, character and the family, abortion, and more.

Hannity doesn't just explain why the liberal take on these issues is wrong – he challenges liberal arguments head-on, exposing their fallacies and giving you clear, hard-to-refute comebacks you can use with left-wing family members and coworkers! Even better, he closely examines the careers of some of today's leading liberal politicians – not just Clinton and Gore, but Daschle and Gephardt too – to show you how they've stood against what's best for America throughout their careers. A few of Hannity's insights:

The Left's sorry record: details of how for years, it has attacked and undermined the very policies and institutions that made our country a beacon of liberty and prosperity
Why so many leading liberals think that the real threat to America isn't Communism, Islamic radicalism, or terrorism – but conservatism
Why issues like gays in the military and global warming were more important to the Clinton administration than protecting America from terrorist attack
Horrifying, but true: how Clinton and his gang refused five chances to obtain important information on Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda between 1996 and 2000
Why the Left is so contemptuous of our military and intelligence services
The CIA: how liberals succeeded in hamstringing its work in tracing the activities of Islamic extremists – just when we needed it the most
Six troubling questions that expose just how badly the Clinton administration bungled its illegal immigration policy – leaving us vulnerable to all kinds of attacks
The shocking details of how Bill Clinton spent eight years gutting the military – with devastating consequences for our national security
Four ways terrorists could unleash destruction on an awesome scale in our nation – and how liberals are trying to prevent us from being prepared
The attack on the Pledge of Allegiance: appalling details of the liberal claim that leading children in the Pledge "makes our country as bad as Osama bin Laden"

There is nothing new in this. In the book Nineteen Eighty-Four published over half a century ago, George Orwell pointed out that words control thoughts and ideas. If there isn't a word for it, you can't think about it. This theme was extended in Samuel Delany's Babel 17.

One example is that the Japanese has no simple equivalent of the English word "surrender" so their soldiers didn't understand the concept. That is why they didn't surrender in hopeless battle situations, and why they didn't know what to do with prisoners. They didn't sign up, as a nation, to the Geneva Convention because they didn't understand it, not because they were inherently cruel.

Or maybe they *were* inherintly cruel, and that's *why* their language is the way it is. Just a thought.

I realize that there is nothing new there, the point is who is saying it, and that Newt has been 'caught' using these tactics and perposly corrupting the laguage for his sides gain. I think most agree that 1984 isn't exactly the role model for the type of governing practices that we want in the US, or that we are suposedly voting for.

So if you see a color that you have never seen before and can not identify with words, you can not think about it? :)

I think that's why men only have about 12 colors that they 'see.'

You wouldn't think about it, you would just call it 'kindof reddish' or just red (let's say if you had never seen maroon) or whatever.

Like if you saw mother of pearl, you would call it 'silverish' or maybe 'swirly silverish' or if you where a guy, you'd probably just say it was white or if you where creative, shiny white.

That "most" clearly excludes the government who ask for the new "anti-terrorist" powers, the legislature who give them those laws, the judiciary who do not strike out the legislation, and the military and law enforcement who use it.

Damn all of you.

Our government and its language is double-plus good.

:D

Newspeak, coming to a government near you.

Gee Whiz, I thought I wrote that book! Who is this Hannity fellow? He's stealing my thunder!

Poor old Newt.

Blessings on Orwell and all who read him. I favor powerful new legislation mandating that every adult read "Politics and the English Language" once per year and three times on election years. And all candidates violating its premises are to be beaten to death with a copy thereof.
