And I wanna know 3 things...
What should his name be before and after?
And should he change from magic or science?
And should it be a series?

I wouldn't have it happen slowly unless for some reason you want to tell a Funtari story and even then, that's not slow that's bizzare magic. If he doesn't know how it happened you're pretty much stuck with magic, or sufficiently advance science which is indistinguishable from magic. (I.E. it doesn't matter one bit to anybody whether Dr. Doom uses a Gender Swap Gun to make you a girl or casts a magic spell. The effect is the same.

As for the name just pick any fucking name that comes with a built in feminization. That's one of the rules you kinda aren't allowed to break except with good reason so.

Chris=Crystal, Christina
Henry=Henrietta
Joeseph=Josephine
Samuel=Samantha
Mike=Michelle (Bonus points for not sounding a whole lot like the original name.)
Martin=Martina

You can also if you're feeling a bit cheeky use an androgenous name.

All come to mind. I suppose if you were feeling bold you could also try switching to names who just have a special connection. Personally I'd stay away from these because they simply don't have the same feel and are obviously separate people not genderswaps and generally speaking in a genderswap you just feminize or masculinize the original name.
