Hypothetical situation: two people want to play a game with each other over the internet, but the program that runs it doens't have online capabilities, though it does have multiplayer options.

Would it be possible to play over the internet, or are they screwed?

Depends on the game, but not necessarily, often a multiplayer session can be run over the net without linking to a exclusive game server....... you would need to know each others IP once online, that's an easy get...... check the games manual, it should tell you......

I think it does depend on the game's features. Some games are made so that you can only dial a friend's modem and connect directly with him/her. However, if a game doesn't have online gaming options, I doubt it'll allow them to.

However, in most cases, a patch would be available for download to allow internet play.

What game is it?

In part, it depnds on the kind of multi-player cpability it has. If it's designed for two players to direct connect via modem, then probably not. If it's designed to acommodate multiple players over a network, then it's probably possible.

Checking the game designer's site for a message board will probaby get you a better answer.

It Will work but you will have to network both of the computers. There is software out there that will network the computers over a dsl line or cable. I know this because I am networked with a friend of mine that lives across the country. There is a delay, slight as it is, but it is there.

If it's a LAN game (IPX protocol) there are LAN emulators (Kahn ,Kali ) but if a game has only split screen multiplayer "they are screwed"
