Kim Jong Il is dead

So, what happens now? Will the people rise up and demand democracy?

I'm no fan of shoving democracy down the throats of stable countries like we always like to do, but the DRK is so repressive I wouldn't be unhappy in this case.

"Madmen are they all, to my mind, clambering apes, overheated. Their idol, that cold monster, stinketh in my nostrils: they all stinketh in my nostrils, these idolaters. My brethern will ye stifle in the reek of their gullets and their lusts! Rather break windows and leap into the air!

Shun, I beseech you this evil stench! Shun the idolatry of these superfluous ones. Shun, I beseech you, the evil odour! Shun the smoke of these human sacrifices!"

Thus spake Zarathustra - Friedrich Nietzche

There is another Kim groomed to take over the despot's slot in the DRK.

It's for the good of the party, don't 'cha know.

Of the Dear Great Successor, Kim Jong-un
It is (whispered) he might be a wrong 'un
Finds it all okey-dokey
To slam his bulgoki
To a Hyundai, with passion and longin'!

They seem happy enough over there.

They're doing just fine.

Hot rock 'n' roll coming from there these days!

I was wondering if all the fake mourners actually got a meal for their effort.

Fake? NK is the only totalitarian state of modern times where there is literally no culture outside the state. The Leader is the only God most of them have ever known or worshipped, and they have never heard anything but good of Him. Now God is dead. Of course they're sincerely broken up!

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha * gasp * ah...hahahahahahahahahaha.

If they do not mourn, they will be sent to prison. It is that easy.

Yes, they are given extra rations at important monuments. I do not know if they get more from the PDS like the birthdays of the leaders.

Skeptical? Try imagining what it's like to be a North Korean -- growing up with no religion and no patriotism that is not Kim-worship, and never exposed to any anti-Kim messages of any kind. He is the Source of All Good Things. You really think you wouldn't feel a big hole inside -- even bigger than missing your last two meals could account for -- when the Leader kicks? You would.

That is not true.

That is not true.

Well, what have they got, in NK, to compete psychologically with Kim-worship, for anyone who wants to focus any attention at all on things beyond the self and family? Religion is mostly suppressed, patriotism/civics means Kim-worship, and you probably cannot even find any clubs or hobbies that are not essentially state-run. There does not even appear to be any black-market economy. And, of course, everything you know about anything beyond the immediate sphere of your daily life comes from state media and very, very guarded word-of-mouth.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, to believe the people are ready not only to overthrow this regime but to laugh at it, like Libyans now laugh at Gaddafi and his Green Book. But I don't expect to see that.

You are still mistaken.

BTW, the SK government seems very embarrassed that its spies did not know Kim was dead before it was announced on NK television.
