It would se m to me, the real issue in Mcfbridge's post isn't how savor or unsavory child porn is, it's an issue of the written word becoming illegal to possess. By and large, the written word enjoys protection under fredom of the press and freedom of speech.
Much as members of NMBLA are withing their rights to advocate their position and agitate for legal change, as long as they do so in a legal manner.
When it comes to written pornography, the guideline seems to be rather fuzzy. Subject to a lot of interpretation on the state levels, most times the higher courts take a more firm line in protecting free spech nd the free press.
If the turner Diaries, which basically advocate a violent over throw of the government and rabid anti-semitism is protected. It seems to me most forms of written pornography would be too.
The crux, with written child porn, is that the authors tend to write their underage leads as if they were in possession of adult capabilities of reasoning and understanding. It can be argued, that this fosters the perception among potential pedophiles that they aren't doing anything wrong. How many of these guys calim the sex was consesual or even that the underage victim seduced them?
Frommy perspective, even writing bout children having sex is distasteful. That said, I feel the same way about scat. I can't say for certain that my judgement isn't clouded by my distaste. I also find many stories aimed at paraphilias to be incomprehensible, as R. Richard pointed out, the hot buttons simply aren't discernable.
I tend to believe that discretion is the better part of valor here. In leiu of significant studies that show there is no danger in written porn provoking a pedophile, I feel watching out for the safety of innocent children is the wiser course of action.
