Kentucky Derby winner fails post race drug test. This is the 5th drug test the "renowned" trainer has failed in the last year. Time to send a message.

11 picograms too much of an anti-inflammatory med. A picogram is equal to one trillionth of a gram.

That’s some blatant and outrageous cheating!

Baffert was so emotional for the long shot when he won and Baffert's a GREAT guest on sports talk radio. Hope it gets worked out.

So blatant and stupid, did they think they weren't going to get caught?

Reminds me of GOP logic.

To be fair it is 11 more than the limit for betamethasone, a common corticosteroid. While not illegal, it is supposed to be tightly restricted in its use by the racing commission.

Baffert has a history of this sort of thing, trying to fly just under the wire in his use of these sort of medications.

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious. I’m sure they have their reasons for the limits, though at those levels it’s pretty amazing it can even be measured.

Especially in the last 18 months from what I read. Maybe the measurement protocols are getting better.

Would make for a good Dick Francis mystery, if it was sabotage by another trainer (and if Dick Francis was still alive and writing).

The books were actually written by his wife and published under his name.

These people have so much money. What is it to them to test their horse right before the race? Nothing. Why don't they? Because Baffert gets paid not to train the horse...but to get the horse through the testing regime. It isn't about racing...it is about stud fees. Follow the money.

The blood sample with the 21 picograms was tiny compared to the amount of blood in a horse.

If you listen to his whole interview...he doesn't deny using the compound...he denies using it at a level in excess of what is allowed. Only problem Bob...different horses metabolize different compounds differently. Your horse exceeded the allowable amount by almost double. End of story. Revoke the race results and make the ban permanent. Guarantee you will never see this happening again. But if you slap his wrist...nothing changes. He is no better of a trainer than a thousand others. It is horses. He is the best at doping horses and not getting caught.

There is that interesting claim. She's dead too, so no book from her on this either.

Their son Felix says his mom wrote the stories.

Talking after the death of Dick Francis, his son Felix said about the rumours that his mother was the real author of the books: "It was the worst-kept secret in publishing. Dick Francis was *always* known by all the publishers to be two people...

Wiki also says Mary Francis was instrumental in helping Dick write the books.

Dick Francis was "famous" and Mary was not. It is always easier for the publishing industry to market books from "famous" people. For example: Shoemakers book "Fire Horse" was awful but got published because he's "famous." Meanwhile there are many good manuscripts going unpublished because the author is an unknown. The industry covers this up by saying there are only so many printers, but the reality is that needing printing space in this day and age is irrelevant because most books are e-books. (There is also the issue of all those newspapers that have been going out of business for decades being able to be repurposed to print books but the industry doesn't because it would lose it's best excuse to not print books.)

How would it do in a 100m run off against Lance Armstrong?

Armstrong would be at least 70m maybe 80m behind. (remember Armstrong has very skinny slick tires and this would be on dirt.)

Are you suggesting that Lance performed best on huge doses of medicinal testosterone
