I find it odd that the Senate Democrats would threaten to do something they've ALREADY BEEN DOING for several weeks.

Posting the occasional fact would be nice, Ish.

Worm: to limit debate in the Senate requires a vote of cloture, which must pass by a 3/5ths majority.

cloture - The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill or other matter, and thereby overcome a filibuster. Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes.

Yep Lasher, that's my byline on the article. Sure is. Wow, good catch.

Now, talk to me about this 'filibuster'? The threat has been there since before the last recess, but it's actually happening now? Son of a gun, I hadn't realized it had been brought to the floor yet. When was that Lasher? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm?

Well, it seems that attempts to break the filibuster are not going too well for Republicans, so I'm not surprised it didn't get much play at townhall.com and/or Faux News.

GOP to Force an Estrada Filibuster Vote

If the Dem's hold the filibuster it can't be broken. As long as they know that a precendent has been set and there'll be hell to pay in the future. With a near centrist electorate, I can foresee the day when the courts are empty.

Turn about is fair play and this is a very dangerous game that is being played.

I think it's more of a checks-and-balances issue. The vast majority of Bush's judicial nominations have sailed through the Senate, with only his fringe candidates (Estrada, Pickering and Owens) being subject to these tactics.

This simply has the net effect of forcing the president to submit more moderate candidates that are palatable to both Democrats and Republicans if he wishes to get these lifetime Federal appointments filled.

Wrong. The courts have been empty for quite a while now.

But my statement still stands. While you say "fringe", on what basis do you make that statement? Fitness for office, as the constitution and the Federalist Papers hold, or because they don't fit your particular litmus test for judgeship?

Are you an advocate of judicial activism or an advocate of constructuralism?

Your statements hold no water. Debate your points with facts, not rhetoric.

And never come at me with that bipatisan bull shit. They are either morally fit to hold high office and have the credentials to do so, or not. The Senate Democrats are asking for a "vow of ruling" before the fact. It's a violation of the seperation of powers at the least. Or an encouragement to seat liars on the bench at the worst.

This is going to come back to haunt the Democrats big time.

You're welcome.

It's a bitch being defined by things over which you have no control.

What makes you think I haven't? At least in some respects.

I still contend that you are being thin skinned and not looking at the historical record.

BTW, you have no idea how offended I was by Clintons "apology". For him to presume to appologize for me and millions of others that were not part of the problem is beyond the pale. For him to apologize for the dead is presumptuous. It was a blatant act of political patronization. Particularly from a man that learned the ropes of politics from a man called Justice Jim Johnson. The Democratic candidate for governor for the state of Arkansas in 1966. A man that ran on a strict segregationist ticket against Winthrop Rockerfeller, and a man that William J. Clinton was one of the campaign organizers for. It was only with JJJ's backing that Wee Willy got the nod for the nomination for Attorney General for the state.

Ish,

For a long time the US never acknowledged that they had done something wrong, no one took resposibility. Your "thin skinned" comment is an example of the latent prejudice which festers within you.

Ya know, when people are guilty of something they usually try to avoid resposibility for their actions....

Don't you think White America has been avoiding responsibility long enough?

How many times have I heard the bullshit statement "Well I didn't own slaves"

How many white people out there don't acknowledge the fact, yes I said FACT that they have a built in advantage even today by their being white. They know its true, and I don't see many white people voulunteering to be black, if by some way it could happen, because they wouldn't want to lose that advantage in America.

The apology, said something to the African-American community...it says we were wrong to do that to you. ( that's a start)

Folks with your reasoning would rather bury your head in the sand, and pretend like it didn't happen.

Regardless of his mentors and or teachers, Clinton had the balls to acknowledge some responsibilty on behalf of the US government.
