Keeper of Hearts (Open to all)

"Yeah that does sound a little....strange I guess. After all, it's just mythology, I guess it's supposed to be a bit weird though, right?" A forced chuckle left his mouth and he looked down at the food on his plate and smiled, picking up his burger and taking a bite of it. "Well, I've had burgers all over the country, and I gotta say - this is definitely one of the best burgers I've ever had." He watched as she seemed to be incredibly interested in his reflection, whic hhe was slightly curious about, but he chose not to say anything about it. "How is the place above the bar? Is it nice?"

Gia pried her eyes from the window and looked at him then down at her burger. She took a bite enjoying the taste before finally managing to catch up to what he had been saying. "Oh the bar, its interesting. I have my own room sort of like a studio I suppose. A kitchenette, bathroom, windows...the basics. Nothing fancy really." she took another bite licking some sauce from her lips. "You could come up if you want. I could show you some of my books." she offered still unwilling to let go though she knew he'd have to go eventually.

"Um..I hope you don't think it rude but you seem to know a lot about dragons. Are you a dragon expert or something? Where do you study your material I'd love to learn more..." she said taking another bite into her burger.

"It sounds like a great place...usually the simplest places are the nicest." Cole put his burger down and started eating some of his fries. "I'd really like to see it, been a long time since I've seen a room other than that in a hotel." He couldn't but think that he didn't really want the night to end, that this was something special. "I've picked up a lot of stories about dragons from here and there. Like I said, I've spent a lot of time reading, going from library to library and picking up anything I could about them." It was one of the biggest lies he had ever told, and he hoped that he had told it convincingly.

"You read that much?" she questione not expecting and answer. She dipped a fry in some ketchup biting the potatoe hard. "I don't even read that much but I guess when you got a hobby." She shrugged and leaned over the table with a smile. "Since you know so much, tell me the best quality a dragon has... "

[ooc: sorry got distracted I'll pick up. :D ]

"Well when something catches my interest, my mind likes to stay focused on whatever it is that I'm interested in. That's part of the reason I've been talking to you all night...you're interesting and I don't want to let that get away." He shook his head when he said that. "That came out wrong..." Chuckling at what he said, he took another couple of bites out of his burger before answering her other question. "Well, if I had to pick one, I would say that it is that they are incredibly noble creatures, willing to help others in need. Most of them anyway. Other than their nobility however, I would say their best quality is their intelligence. They're known as some of the smartest creatures out there."

Gia blushed poking a fry into her ketchup one time too many... "I'm that interesting to you?" she asked venturing a look at him. She bit her bottom lip looking back out the window and overting her gaze to his reflection for once. "I suppose I've been trying to keep you around long as I can..." she confussed. "I really like you...I .. mean I like your company." Sighing deeply her face grew hotter at the slip up.

She turned green eyes to Cole with a slight frown. "I've wondered if dragons are so intelligent why are they extinct if they ever existed in the first place..."

Cole smiled at the fact that he was able to make her blush. "I really like you too Gia...I don't connect with people very often, and when I do, it's never like this. I think there might be something special here...though I won't say anything more, cause I don't wan tto jinx it." He realized that he had finished off his burger, and began to work on his fries. "Well...it's entirely possible that they're not extinct....that they've used their magic to walk amongst us, pass as human, search for the one holding their heart."

Gia looked at him a wry smile on her face. "I though you said that was clearly a myth. If I were a dragon I wouldn't want someone else holding my heart if that was the case... what if they're being hunted. They'd put that person in danger if somoene wanted them dead. That's awful selfish..." she commented absently. Reaching for her drink she took a sip. "But then I suppose it does make sense to hide their heart if its the source of their power or something. Ooh, I had a thought, if you were a dragon what kind would you be and why?"

:D

"Well, that's probably why the dragons would seek out the ones holding their hearts - in order to protect them, make sure the heart stays safe. They don't want anything to happen to their heart, and the best way to ensure the safety of it is to protect the one who holds it." Cole sat back in his chair, simply enjoying her company. "Well....I guess if I had to pick one...it would probably be a black dragon. While they do have the reputation of being bad, some have been known to be incredibly noble and brave."

"I suppose I'd also want to be a black dragon but I've been leaning toward blue dragons as of late. Their calm regal serenity.. I don't know they just seem...well cool." she chuckled taking another sip, then sat back in her seat. "But honestly, a black dragon has a lot on his side for being a simple color. I mean most people are scared of black dragons for their reputation. And they always look so ferral and ready to kill.. I wouldn't mess with one."

"There's this picture in the art gallery at my school, a black dragon sitting regal upon a cliff, blowing fire. And there was a castle in the distance with hordes of soldiers spilling out of the castle ready to slay him. At first glance it made me think how scary that dragon was. But when I actually took time to look at the picture you could see a woman hidden just under the dragons wings, he looked to be protecting her. It was quite heart warming."

She sighed looking out the window once more. "I gathered the dragon had made friends with the woman. Or maybe she was running away from something and she was more comfortable with the dragon. Either way that beast didn't look to happy that those soldiers where coming there way. After seeing that picture I looked up a lot of pantings with dragons to see the bigger picture. And most of them, were drawn with a woman at their side... all of which the woman in the picture looked most happiest at the dragon's side rather than with her own kind." Looking up she shook her head returning to the present. "Sorry I got a little carried away but...I just felt like sharing I guess."

"Gia, you never need to feel ashamed when you want to share something with me. You dont' need to keep apologizing for askign questions, either. I'm quite enjoying spending time with you, and I find that your observations are quite....intriguing." Cole picked up his glass of water, staring at it for a moment, and then took a long sip from it.
"I've seen a few paintings similar to the ones you described...and at first I was a little dissappointed in the representation of the dragon...he seemed to be nothing more than a beast bent on a mission of destruction, and I didn't feel that was quite appropriate. However, as I looked closer at the paintings, I noticed the very same things you did, and I must say I'm quite fond of those paintings now. Combining it with what I have read over the years, I'm led to believe that perhaps the women the dragons are shown protecting are their Keepers - the ones who hold their hearts. That is why the women seem happy to be with the dragon - they've found their soulmate."

"Sor...I mean. Okay." she corrected herself finally, it was just different being comfortable with someone for a change she didn't want to seem like a problem. "Boy it sure is a lot of work for a dragon. What if they get a hot headed keeper or one that's prone to danger all the time. He'd be up at all hours of the night trying to protect his heart..." she laughed for a moment just imagining an annoyed dragon berating his keeper over and over again for being so headstrong.

"I'd chain the girl down or something. But then it never speaks in the legends about any of the keepers hating dragons. I wonder if that's possible...that would suck. The dragon would have to protect his heart from herself and others...assuming she's suicidal. But then that just makes me feel sorry for the suicidal keeper. If the dragon didn't get to her on time she'd jump off a cliff or slit her wrist or something...that's horrible. "

[[ooc: and now I suddenly want to play a suicidal keeper...lol... omg I'm an idiot. :D ]]

"I don't think it's possible for the Keeper to hate dragons...I think that on some level, they are drawn to them, they find them intriguing. The dragon cares deeply for his Keeper, as does she for him. The Keeper would not want any harm to happen to her soulmate. I mean...would you?" He finished off the last of his fries and then took a sip of his water. "As far as I know, no Keepers ever killed themselves...they knew how important their mission was. Besides, if the Keeper dies, so does the dragon...and none of them want that."

"No I wouldn't. If I found my soulmate I'd like to spend the rest of my life with him..." she said chewing on her bottom lip and looking out the window. "I had believed in that when I was younger but seeing how bleak life can be... I suppose settling or being alone is best." she looked back at him with a sad smile. "I guess I get a little lonely at times but I've managed. I'd be better than dating some idiot who wouldn't appriciate me. I'd rather be alone."

"I think that you shouldn't give up on something like that quite so easily. True love....finding your soulmate...that's something worth believing in. Though...I must say that I can't argue that you're better alone than dating an idiot..." He chuckled at this. "But...if you can find someone who doesn't treat you like dirt then...I think it's worth it to keep someone like that around, don't you?" With this last statement, his hand once again found hers and he smiled at her, his eyes locking onto hers.

She blushed brightly coughing to catch her breath. He seemed so galliant saying that and then taking her hand, she was highly unprepared. "Why I do declare, are you trying to make a pass at me?" she chuckled clearing her throat to speak normally. "I haven't given up hope but I am weary." she said though she didn't move her hand from his. "I just want to make sure everything is as it should be...kind of like... now. We've talked ourselves blue in the face and still I don't want to be anywhere else but here right now. I almost wish those myths were true." she giggled looking down at her unfinished burger and noting he had already finished his. She stole a glance at him and blushed even more as he was still staring at her.

"Well now that you mention it...I think I might be making a pass at you. Is that such a bad thing?" Cole chuckled at the comments she made. "I don't know if I've ever had a conversation with anyone that has lasted as long as mine has with you. Nor have I ever enjoyed one as much. I've been trying to think of ways to extend our night so that it doesn't have to end but sadly, I can't really think of many." He squeezed her hand gently and smiled at her. "Who's to say those myths aren't true?"

Taking a deep breath, Gia let it out in slow strides biting her bottom lip. "If you are making a pass at me I don't mind. In fact, I'm also a guilty party." she said looking at there intwined hands. "And the only thing I can think to stay like this short of the obvious... well maybe a walk on the beach seeing as how its close by." she offered though it was all she could do not to drag him back to her room and tie him down. "And if I'm to believe in a dragon then what makes him believe he's found his heart?" Her breath was coming in slow and shallow by now, her heart bounding so loud that she swore he could hear it.

"A walk on the beach? Well....cliche as it sounds, I think that's a great idea. Why don't we get out of here and show me where this beach is?" He stood up, throwing enough money onto the table to cover both the bill and the tip. "I've always enjoyed walking on beaches at night..always seems like there is something magical about it." She began to lead him to where the beach was, and he smiled as their hands stayed together as they walked down the street. "I think that if a dragon finds the one with his heart, he'll just know it. He'll feel some kind of drawing towards the girl...and he'll just find her." As they reached the beach he smiled, looking over the dark water reflecting the night sky. Without another word, he turned towards her and placed his free hand on her cheek, leaning in to kiss her gently.

"Cliche..." she giggled leading the way to the beach not too far from their location. She took her shoes off letting the wet sand exfoliate her feet as they walked along hand in hand. She listened carefully to what he was saying mulling over possibilities...wondering if the myths were true then he had to be a dragon in diguise. She stiffled a laugh at the thought looking him over while he caressed her cheek. She didn't have much time to explore more possibilities when her mind went blank from being kissed so suddenly. For a moment she stood stone still but the warmth of his breath and being so close to him now she couldn't help but melt against him and return the kiss in kind; gripping his hand in hers tighter.

"Three kings is simple." He flipped a few cards. All of them Face. "You get three cards. And you choose to Call, drop, Flop Or fol'. Now the three kings are the highest. Then the Straight Flush. Then three queens. Jacks and so on down the line. Aces be the highest of the Non Faces though. And the deuce be the lowest. 10 9 8 all the way to the 2."

He flipped cards off in order. As he called them. Pulling them from wherever in the deck.

"Then you got your Straights. And your straight flushes. A Straight being a 9 10 Jack. Or Jack Queen King. And A straight Flush is when they go in order and they all be the same suit. All Hearts Diamonds. What have you. Then apair, and high card."

He shuffled up and then dealt three cards to the table. A 7,6,2 all of diamonds.

"Now when you get your cards. You can drop one and take one from the Top. And if you don't call you have too. You can also take the top card of the drop. But only the top. Unless your opponent flops. You can drop all your three cards from your hand. And pick up the top three from the deck. But your opponent can then pick up any card in the drop pile. But he can still only pick one. But any one."

"You got the game. It goes till someone says call. And you call on your turn, before you drop or pick up."

She smiled at him "What happens if I lose ?"

Flirting with him a bit "I'm Surprise Coin You don't have a Woman waiting for you seems to me alot of the women here would be happy if you took them home... But I don't think You even know what home means do you ?"

Coin shuffled the cards deftly. The bridges appearing and folding as he let them flutter. In his hands cards were almost weapons and he made them dance. Showing little tricks like Flipping cards down the line. Back bridging and One hand cutting.

As he shuffled he spoke.

"Well that'll be decided if you lose. I figured this would be freindly like. But I could put a little wager. Some forfiet on the line."

Coin laid the deck out and waited for Briana to cut.

"Well, I sleep mostly 'round. Tella truth, I sometimes don't even 'member where I went. I had a few ladies bring me home. And a few do it again. But I don't think I have a place where I loose my boots and think of my 'ome. Closest I can think of is this place. Has a good vibe."

He tapped the deck signifying it was shuffled.

"So cut and look. We'll make bets then on the first hand. K?"

Cole let go of her hand and proceeded to wraps his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him as he kissed her. He began to move slowly down towards the ground, gently taking her with him until they were both seated upon the sand. After a few moments, he broke the kiss and looked deeply into her eyes. "I'm sorry...but I've been waiting to do that all night. Since the moment you served me that first drink, I've wanted to kiss you. I didn't mean to catch you off guard but....I couldn't contain myself."

She cut the deck as she watched him,She looked at the cards over welm with possibilites and not sure where to start....She enjoyed being with this man as she smiled at him when she thought through some of the games they played ..

She looked up and heard her favorite song and smiled "Care to dance with me Coin"

Getting up she headed to the dance floor as she looked over her shoulder at him and smiled

Gia sighed into the kiss not even noticing their descent upon the sand. When he let up from the kiss she finally opened her eyes, cheeks aglow and eyes sprakling. "I don't mind, not very many guys can sweep me off my feet without a fuss..." She ran her hand through his hair while looking deeply in his eyes. Something about him just drew her in without a care in the world. "I'm pretty sure this is all some elaborate dream and that my alarm clock will go off and you'll never have stepped foot in this town...for now just kiss me. Its been so long since someone made me feel special." She breathed against him and moved in closer for another deep kiss.
