Which reminds me to ask, just on the off-chance - does anyone here have any experience with becoming a permanent resident of the U.S.? I'm over my head with the confusing paperwork, and the only advice I've been given is to hire an expensive-as-hell lawyer. There is a nonprofit organization I called but while they were very nice, I was more confused after talking to them than I was before.

hmmm...ich weiss nicht ob ich zu spaet bin oder nicht, aber erfahrungsgemaess, sobald du einen Ami geheiratet hast, kannst du nicht mehr ausgewiesen werden. also zeit nehmen, papiere ausfullen und dannach ne schoenen kaeffchen trinken. und viiiiieeeellll geduld mit bringen.
