...that I'm going to get married at the end of the month.
My former boyfriend, now fiancé, S, proposed to me a few weeks ago - partially motivated by the fact that my student visa is running out soon, but that wasn't the only reason, just the one responsible for the timing. We've known each other for several years and have lived together for over a year (which has worked well).
We're not going to have a big wedding, or even a real wedding at all, for at least a year. I'd like my extended family to have the opportunity to be there, and they'll have to book flights, take time off from work and probably plan their vacations around this, so we'll have a delayed wedding. For now, we're just planning to go and sign the marriage certificate, maybe at a park or some nice location, and have dinner with both sets of close family members. I never imagined I'd be having a Wedding in two parts, but we agreed that this was the most logical and sensible course of action, and I think it works out just fine.
The date is May 28, which is Memorial Day. Since my parents are only going to be in the country for four days (for my graduation), we didn't have a lot of choices on when to schedule this.
S' mom is not happy (she's a fairly devout catholic). His dad is supportive though, which I am glad for. My parents both support the decision as well. S and I are both very happy about it, even though it was sudden - we've talked about it a lot in the past.
I just never thought I'd end up one of those people who get married right out of college.
