Just Plain Depressing...

Lol thanks

Actually I thought about PMing her at the time and giving her a friendly warning. Which was more considerate and thoughtful than the excited dudes egging her on. But that would have been too bitchy.

She wasn't just naive Daisy wandering into a pool of hungry sharks. Not just that, she cut herself before she went in.

You can sit and bitch and whine that lit is full of sharks. (Like all free forums.) My point is be aware of it!

QUOTE=Cruel2BKind;59983519]After reading this thread, a few more posters are going to be joining the lovely and distinguished candyman on iggy.

We need a few dozen more of you, and we need a dearth of Squirrelbitches.

You'd think that would be simple enough to understand?

All of the posts on this monster that say something along the lines of 'she should have expected it' are part of the problem. Harassers and threateners who post in a website atmosphere like this, they can gauge the attitude of the community. If 70% of the posters say that she should just expect it/deserve it then more people will feel safe and continue to harass and threaten online.

To put it simply, in a space that is almost purely based on our words to each other,

THOSE WORDS FUCKING MATTER.

I know that I've been lucky. I stick to AH mostly, and even when I got some unwanted PMs, no one reacted negatively when I sent replies to the effect that my personal ad was from a long time ago and I was no longer searching for roleplay. If we create this environment of acceptance, it will drive away more victims and cause the scum to flourish.

And LC? Tone it down against the site. I'm not even defending lit here. You're like a hellhound with a bone, and it's getting old.[/QUOTE]

I just wanted to point out that I brought the butterfly. Somebody else is in charge of flowers. ;)

You've been sippin' too much fermented nectar, Ms. Monarch. Those are flowers you are perched on.

As for the name calling here, if you don't like someone's point, make a counter point, not prove how well you can bully someone in a thread about the sad state of bullying.

Oh, that's not nectar. That's beer. My two-month headache has finally made itself scarce for the time being. I'm drinking BEER.

Yeah. I forgot about those purple things.

This is the ironic part. If this is the poster I think it is, she indeed wanted RL contact with folks here (the wording of the OP indicates to me that she went to this level with TSB too). I don't think she wanted sexual contact with anyone, though. It was more a curiosity about and openness to people--not the safest mind-sets for porn site participation.

The poster I'm thinking of researched my stories, outed me, contacted me in RL, wanted to meet me, came all the way across the country even though I responded that I keep my lives separate, sent me a photo of the original of a Master Thesis I'd written that's housed in the university library a mile and a half from my house as evidence she'd been here, identified a motel she'd stayed at just at the bottom of the ridge where I lived, and said she'd walked by my house to see where I lived. It wasn't a sexual thing, I'm sure, but it certainly was seeking RL connections. And she wasn't above a mild form of stalking herself--and I mean RL stalking.

That said, knowing where she works (and she's a woman, not a "girl"), how good her research was in identifying me from the content of my stories, how good and perceptive her comments on stories were, and how personable and a good discussant she is, I'll miss her from the Web site. That said, I don't think she was of the mind-set to be on a Web site like this, I think it was a good decision to leave, and I think we should just let it go.

I can't be PC enough to say she didn't leave herself open for this where it happened. Real is real. I'm also not PC enough to say the response to unwanted PMs is to rattle rockets. I think it's to ignore and move on.

I too saw posts by her on this forum that I thought were surprisingly far into the sexual teasing (whether she realized it or not) and I too remember thinking that wasn't a good idea as atyically open she was about herself in RL with me. Naive and not realizing what was real-life entailed with being on a porn board were the words that came to mind.

To a comment earlier that she probably hadn't authored anything yet. She, in fact did, and I've edited for her here. (The stories are gone now.) She entered some contests. And she certainly knew of the e-mail pass through from story comments--that's how she initiated contact with me.

Maybe we can just let this one go now?

Wrong thread, but I concur, this one should be let go.

I agree it's not OK. But I'm realistic enough to know that there are people who will do it on a Web site as open as this one is whether or not I or anyone else thinks it's OK. And I think it's idiotic to assume that posters to this thread think it's OK just because they point to the reality that it's going to happen in the current environment on this porn site--both because of who posters are and what they post and how other posters choose to take their posts.

I noted what shouldn't be hard to do to cut down on it within the stated rules of the Web site. Report it when it happens, the Web administrators shooting a shot across the bow of the claimed perpetrator (both to give the guy a chance to tone it back and also a chance to contradict it--as false reporting is also going to happen considering some of the folks who play here), and then when it happens again, zero out the account. Rinse and repeat as necessary.

There's no indication even step one was taken here.

And sure as hell just posturing on the not OKness of sending sexually harassing messages is just that--empty posturing. And going after those who point to reality is just dumb.

I agree with Pilot that this can and should be done. There is a community here, even if it's fractious, and it's a blow to the community when something like this happens.

One more thing could be done, too, without additional programming. If (as I suspect) the site records IP addresses for these transactions, a note could be sent to the ISP, college, company, or whatever that owns that address with a copy of the offending note. Organizations tend to take a dim view of people using their networks to commit crimes.

Couple of points to your points.

First if the person is an anon stalker who is sending messages through feedback there is no way to give them that warning. But if you combine that idea with mine which is to once and for all eliminate anon members and make this site inaccessible to anyone without a member ID then that does become a good possibility.

But....I know of several people here and I am sure you and others do as well, who have been harassed and not just sexually, but all across the boards )and usually that is from the GB and playground where the real "cool" people hang out) have gone to this site to report it and are told. "That is what ignore is for"

So there are people here who if they are being attacked just deal with it because its well established the site could care less.

Seen litfan and Slave_ around lately? Nope. Why? Because she was abused by multiple GB posters and not just on lit, but across the net(these jackals are all over facebook and twitter as well and they somehow keep finding people's real info) and Laurel? Yeah, please it was her buddies doing it so they finally left.

The bullying here is recreational and seen as funny. That of course would be denied just like everything else is, but its true.

Look no further than the Selena Kitt Danielle Kitten harassment and that was right out in the open and done by the same person

So....what was the sites response there?

That's the answer to anything ever being done about cyber bullying on lit. Put up with it or leave.

With the exception of pointing out that anonymous emails can be sent, which is a good point--but which, as others pointed out should be a cut-out email address that can be dumped, not a true-name email address, you haven't posted anything that I haven't posted as well. (And which, if Pollyannas here will take their heads out of the clouds, they will realize exists and is going to be prompted by certain poster behavior no matter what the poster thinks are their inherent rights. That and a nickel is going to give them a coin that is pretty much useless anymore beyond wearing a hole in their pocketbook.)

If there's no will for the Web site administration to do anything, nothing's going to be done no matter how much "shouda/coulda" posters blather about here on the forum.

Speaking of a blathering Pollyanna. Yes, Pilot, everyone but you blathers and is a Pollyanna.

On a positive note, I was just thinking about how many truly good people I've had the opportunity to get to know here. Do I know for sure that they aren't axe murderers? Nope. But I've found quite a few people here that I would miss dearly if they decided to leave. You know who you are. :)

(The beer is talking. I'm in that "I love you, man" stage of beer drinking. Half day of school. Folk festival across the creek. Life is good.)

Right on the last part. Like anything else here, brain storming and making suggestions and complaining will get nowhere because saying the site is apathetic is giving them credit.

Toss away e-mails addresses can still be traced, someone has to create them from somewhere and a good tech or PI can track them down, I know that from experience(not in tracking, I am tech deficient but having someone find someone for me last year)

The thing about anon trolls is that anything that takes away even a layer of their anonymity (such as being asked for an e-mail address) might deter their behavior, just that little chance of being caught will stop many of them.

Look at the comments, the nastiest are all from anon. But what if anon had to have a handle and they started getting feedback messages from the authors they are heckling that were just as nasty? Bet some of it would stop.

The worst trolls, like the one that is being discussed here, are fundamentally cowards, they lash out violently and over the top because they are frustrated little people. That type of person gets very gun shy when there is a way they can get found out. Hell, most of them in LW are probably married and the wives have no idea they come here, but could find out if there was an e-mail trail.

I stick to my idea that eliminating anon here would be a huge benefit to the authors and posters of this site in many ways.

But its all a moot point as we both know.

If we keep this up we will become trolls again.

I agree about eliminating anonymous accounts. I wouldn't think this would be too difficult to do, meaning the work entailed in doing it. I realize that the owners deciding to do it is another issue.

So, as if I didn't know, we have some serious 'cool fool' types on the GB ?
Quite why they damned well bother is a complete mystery to me. Some femail gives them (him,?) a burr under his saddle and thus gets all stupid about it?

I've seen them on facebook. I don't do twitter, but I have read of the anti-social and nasty idiots who plague a person (some of them also get a jail term for Stalking is illegal in the UK) . I realise the innocence (or ignorance) of just how to tighten up the circle of so-called "friends" could be a major factor in fb. & twit.)

But I do wish that there was a means of dealing with these complete idiots.
They really give a place like the AH a bad name.
I mean - ye gods - they don't even write in good English!
:)

I've always supported eliminating anonymous here--but it's hardly your idea. It was being suggested before either of us starting posting here.

Alertness is like a spring - if you over-use it frivolously it will eventually stop functioning correctly. Thus common sense should be part of evaluating any perceived threat, before going ape. What do you think the odds are that I am right in assuming that this is a mere mail-bully? I'd say as close to "certain" as you can get.

I wouldn't claim anything approaching "certainty" about the mental state of an Internet stranger without having even seen their messages, but then I'm not a telepath, cop, or forensic psych professional. Your mileage may vary.

I wonder how many opinions and answers would be different if the responder was looking through female eyes and not male. One can easily assume and expect some of the usual online troll responses from guys, along with the mandatory dick pics. To have threats made against you in any way is inexcusable from anyone, no matter how open the person was in looking for a RL encounter and discussing her sex life.
Guys can sit and brag about every woman they've fucked and think nothing of it, but it's not the same for a woman to do it, as she will be marked as use, abuse and throw away.
Equality is still such a lopsided word to use these days, despite that women have the same rights and freedoms.
I applaud her for retaining her dignity in the face of such a disgraceful act and hope she doesn't judge all men accordingly. Some of us understand the obvious superiority of women in so many ways and hold a great respect for them.
Agus go mairfidh, na man go deo. (May the women live forever- Gaelic)

Good post, nice fuck you to the "real men" here

Know what I find funny-and not funny ha ha- about lit?

Take a walk over to the GB and read through that banality which they think is clever. For the rudest forum out there they have this obsession with PC, as does a lot of the site I suppose.

If you say something racist they will harass you. If you say something homophobic they will harass you.

So words like Faggot and nigger (which for me personally, I fnd to be ignorant words)will get them to try to run you off.

But.... Cunt? The rudest thing you can refer to a woman as? The most sexist slur out there?

Oh, that is a running joke over there. Know why? Because Laurel thinks its funny

The misogyny on this site starts right at the top and that is why nothing will ever be done.

If the men hear cannot act like "real men" then they might leave and oh, my wouldn't that be a loss?

Ever notice how as apathetic as this site is, Laurel has stepped into many threads regarding LW and the preservation of the cuck stories?

LW is a cesspool of scum when it comes to readership and the trolls, and let's face it, the threats this woman got is a joke compared to the violence that spews from the posters there.

But that is who laurel comes out to protect and take care of. That is when she gets involved. Have to protect the rights of those people, now don;t we?

Maybe she likes them because they say cunt all the time.

I think its obvious what the sites view on women here is.

I can;t say I know anything about the person who runs this site on a personal level, but what I see here fascinates me. I have never met a female misogynist before. Maybe she's a guy hiding behind a bunch of kitty pics. Hmm kitty....Pussy.....maybe we should call them cunt pics. that would be funny, no?

I hate morons who slam victims instead of having the balls to criticize the perpetuator.

This kind of behaviour sickens me. So sue me for losing my mind.

To them, If you ain't got any sympathy for the victim then don't post AT ALL.

She admitted to the fact that Manu doesn't really approve those kind of posts from her which involve taking sides with the posters in the forum.

And what I've gathered from the response of mods and all -

"If you feel offended, there's always the ignore list."

They might as well as tell us to fuck off if you have problems with this site.

IMO, these things are to expected when a large number of anon people congregate on an erotic website.

Fuck, fight or hit the fence.

The lady in question has decided to go with the fence, and that's okay. There's no logic in shaming her for that. She had a choice and she took that.

In fact, given her sensitivity regarding such threats, it was probably the best choice for her.

Yeah, I know it sucks to lose a friend to such banal activites, but people arrive and leave all the time. It would be a bit foolish to expect something more when you know nothing about the person before you.

I'm damn sure she didn't give out any of her personal info.

She just didn't expect private feedbacks(?) which is linked to her mail.

It's linked to her email only in that any message submitted through a member's feedback form will be emailed to the onfile email. The person sending the message never knows the member's email account, as is stated in the footer of every feedback sent to a member:

*DO NOT hit the REPLY button to respond to this email.*

If you do not wish to receive anonymous feedback, you can log into the member area at Literotica.com and turn the option off for your account. If you have questions, please contact Webmaster@Literotica.com.

Once you click "NO" under "Accept Anonymous Feedback?" and "YES" under "Turn Off All Feedback?", then no one can ever contact you via Literotica.

We do not intervene in personal disputes because they can be murky. Long ago when the site was smaller, a longtime user claimed that a man was stalking her and wanted him removed from the site. We ended up talking (actually talking on the phone) to the man, his wife, and their adult son, who all said that the other woman was the one actually doing the stalking - actually physically stalking them - and that they were in contact with the police about it.

We do comply completely with all requests from law enforcement. If a member is having issues, I definitely suggest that you contact your local law enforcement in these matters, as they are better able to handle these situations.

We provide the tools to limit your contact with other members to your comfort. If you don't want feedback, you can turn it off. If you don't want voting, you can turn that off as well. It's entirely your choice. :rose:

The mental state is not a big concern. In order to pose a threat the person needs the physical location of the vic. Getting that from an e-mail is no trivial task.

Besides, the perceived anonymity of the internet tends to make a lot of people (girls too) act out their inner bastards. And the tendency seems most pronounced by the socially inept. The guy behind that e-mail would probably die from a heart attack if a girl actually approached him in real life. You can't seriously call in SWAT every time some asshat puts a MaxHardcore quote in an e-mail. Ever read "The Boy Who Cried Wolf?"

Here are the options available to the girl from the original post:

1. Engage in a dialog with the troll and feed his ego thus escalating the situation to the point where she allows herself to get chased off the site. Because: "EEEEK! They're all perverts!"

2. Do the above plus file charges. Because: "EEEEK! I'm in mortal danger!"

3. Put the goofball - plus anybody else of the same kind - on ignore.

I would suggest option "3".

Yes, I had already suggested her to turn off all anonymous feedback. Hopefully, she won't recieve any more "feedbacks" because she hasn't replied to any of them, thus keeping her email id safe.

I've adviced her to contact the police, but haven't heard from her since. The next step of action depends entirely on her.

jesus what a lack of self respect. get over it. No one can hurt you unless you allow it. for christ sake, get a real life outside lit. where real people fuck real people and suck etc. ,etc., etc. , here on this site, all is illusion like magic tricks. On this site I have been fucked in the ass numerous times. In reality, it is impossible, for medical reasons.

I was once at a Star Trek convention where a young man about 16 asked Captan Kirk how it felt to be captured by the Romulans. Holey shahokee bat man, learn to distinguish between reality and fantasy!
